The ultimate Afghanistan nightmare would be Americans left behind there, effectively becoming hostages at the mercy of the Taliban. Yet that is precisely what an experienced Afghanistan hand predicted on CNN's New Day Tuesday morning, unless the August 31st evacuation deadline can be extended.
CNN's guest was Army Reserve Major Matt Zeller, who is also a former CIA analyst. He is part of an informal network of military and intel people with previous Afghanistan experience who are now trying to help Afghan allies to evacuate.
Zeller then added ominously:
"At this point, if we don't do this well past August 31st, if we don't get a time that -- an additional time to do this, there's a significant chance we'll end up leaving Americans also behind in Afghanistan to be under the Taliban's rule."

Biden has now announced that he won’t extend the August 31st deadline—guess he folded to the Taliban.
So if this Army Reserve major and former CIA analyst is right, many Americans will be left behind in Afghanistan.

Maybe China and Russia will get them out, thereby winning a propaganda victory.
That’s possible as well. That would be far valuable to them than dead Americans.
If these trapped Americans were sent there by Uncle Sugar or are American contractors for the war effort, then it’s shameful to leave them there.
If they went there on their own volition, too bad, so sad. Play stupid games...
WHY are Americans still there in the thousands?
Surely they knew or strongly suspected that a fall was coming, albeit faster than expected.
Just curious as to their reasoning.
My opinion is that the ‘significant chance’ has become a dead certainty with Biden’s continuation of a 31 August BUGOUT! After all those years as Obama’s VP that was perpetually the Lead in a break-out summer in near endless economic doldrums, Biden got bugout and breakout confused for Afghanistan! A bad time for than lonely neuron to misfire!
I suspect a huge number of these “Americans” are only Americans by circumstance — like a person born in Afghanistan to one parent with U.S. citizenship, and who has never set foot in the U.S.
We do not know that such people even exist. There was one woman with an accent who called herself Fatima who was all over the news yesterday. I think that is the only supposed American the media has been able to dredge up so far.

There are people that Joe doesn’t WANT back because of what they would be saying.
That’s why this whole thing is taking SO long...everyone is being screened so the wrong people don’t get back to snitch.
And TOO... it will make the Taliban demands for ransome much more urgent if the people on Joe’s ‘good list’ are left as hostages. That way-he can justify the transfer TONS more money to his friends in the Taliban
