Storm halts We Love NYC Homecoming Concert mid-Barry Manilow performance

New York City’s “Homecoming” concert at Central Park was abruptly halted in the middle of Barry Manilow’s performance Saturday evening — as lightning storms tied to approaching Hurricane Henri descended on the Big Apple.

Concertgoers were told at 7:37 p.m. to “proceed to your vehicles and protected areas outside of the event center” as Manilow was singing his 1978 hit “Can’t Smile Without You.”

Gosh, I remember that night! I was walking to a class after work, happened to look up Lexington Avenue to see the Chrysler building looking pure white against the blackest storm clouds I I have ever seen while the sun was still up...yep, rained like hell. I was in class for two hours and didn’t hear about the Diana Ross concert until the late news.
