Thousands have gathered outside the international hub as global leaders scramble to evacuate diplomats and nationals following the Taliban takeover.
Footage has captured tense scenes as the military desperately tried to control the chaos, with shocking images showing infants being passed over razor wire to American soldiers on barricades.
Speaking from the ground in Kabul, chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay said today is the "worst day so far" as people queuing in their thousands are crushed at the front of growing crowds.
He said he believes people have died this morning, adding: "I've seen a lot of people getting medical attention."
Describing the scenes as "utterly horrendous", Ramsay said the military has been forced to fire blast explosions in a bid to get people to take a step back and alleviate pressure on the front.
He added: "It is very very tense, they're doing everything they can to keep some order and to rescue people who may be dying."
The journalist added that "hardened soldiers" had told him its the "worst thing they have ever seen in their entire career."

FoxNewsChannel is reporting that US citizens in Kabul have been now notified to NOT go to the Kabul airport. If true, it’s evidence that this is about to become an even bigger CF.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
WHY IS JOE BIDEN STILL PRESIDENT
I feel bad for the 82nd airborne to have to serve under this crooked regime. My son served in Afcrapistan and Iraq in 2002-2004 in actual combat. He’s pissed.
The son of a close friend is in the 82nd at Kabul airport.
In a trap at the Taliban’s mercy.
I bet he is!
“In a trap at the Taliban’s mercy.”
Seems they’re sitting ducks there. Taliban could shell them, or launch SAMS on the approach/departure paths. At this point, about all we can do is what Mario the Pius said we should do (in 1990) instead of invading Kuwait with ground troops, which was to “Declare victory and leave”.
The one thing the Taliban is good at is dropping perfectly placed mortar rounds.
Makes you wonder why the USA abandoned Bagram Airfield? It is 30 miles north of the Kabul airport. The airfield has two runways.
The USA had a secure Bagram Airfield for 20 years before abandoning it in the dead of night on July 1, 2021. What equipment did they leave there? Why did they not inform their Afghan allies?
He will probably need counseling after this if he survives it. I wasnt around for vietnam but hard to believe anything has been more of a screw up in modern history.
Of course the airport is going to be crushed with people. They want out. freedom.
It isnt safe for anyone.
Amid all the lamentations and gnashing of teeth, there is a very bright silver lining.
In spite of losing, WE have won
Prayers for him!
The photo above of the US troops having to stand lined up behind the razor wire eye to eye with desperate people is horrifying. How must they feel?
And it is obvious that things are about to get much, much worse, because nothing is being done to prevent the Taliban from attacking They haven’t been attacking Americans en masse in the last few days because they’ve been busy consolidating their power, disarming the populace, reimposing Islamic law, etc. But they’ll be ready soon.
State Dept issued a notification this AM telling Americans NOT to attempt going to the airport.
What an absolute debacle.
Because Democrats.
American traitors.
They won’t attack the airport at all if the last U.S. military plane takes off on August 31, per Taliban demands, with the last U.S. soldier on board.
No matter how many American citizens are left behind, and needless to say, all our Afghan allies will be slaughtered.
Worst disgrace in U.S. history, and totally self-inflected by Biden and his moron yes-men.
It’s about time we found out who is even running our country. It’s not likely that it is the puppet Biden.
Thanks a lot, Senile Joe!
(WHY IS JOE BIDEN STILL PRESIDENT)
