A white Iowa woman who admitted she ran over and tried to kill two children with her car because of their race was sentenced in federal court to 25 years in prison.
Nicole Poole Franklin, 43, pleaded guilty in April to federal hate crime charges for attempting to kill a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl in December 2019.
The Department of Justice said she targeted the minors "because of their race and national origin." The boy is Black and the girl is Hispanic.

So long, white trash.
Btw what kind of sentence would she have got had she succeeded?
hopefully this will apply in the reverse. but we all know it won’t.
Only 25 years?
Why is she ever getting out?
Evil woman. Light sentence, IMO. But then, attempted murder usually results in a lighter sentence. It seems strange that criminals get rewarded for botching a murder attempt.
25 years isn’t enough. The death penalty is appropriate even if not prescribed by law, some garbage should be taken out.
Clearly a mentally disturbed person.
Vehicular homicide? Probably five to eight years.
You never hear about this when the races are reversed.
About 5 days ago, a customer in a Baltimore Chipolte complained about waiting over 20 minutes for his order.
Response: The Manager, a woman named Nicole, threw a pair of scissors at the customers head.
He calls police. She disappears. She soon is fired.
I heard very little about the incident, even though the customer filmed her throw on his phone.
Here in Iowa we’re too nice for capital punishment.
I suppose it’s very twenty-year-ago of me to point out that this was a local crime adequately punishable under state law with zero justification for federal involvement.
How awful. Purposly trying to run over innocent children seems a hate crime to me whether its about race or not.
She got 25 years. That’s good. (not enough > IMO)
Federal charges should be reserved for when state officials won’t act. I would have preferred that the South Carolina church shooter been convicted and sentenced to death on murder charges instead of civil rights charges, for example.
It would have been better for Iowa to get the shot at her first.
