Here in Iowa we’re too nice for capital punishment.
I suppose it’s very twenty-year-ago of me to point out that this was a local crime adequately punishable under state law with zero justification for federal involvement.
Federal charges should be reserved for when state officials won’t act. I would have preferred that the South Carolina church shooter been convicted and sentenced to death on murder charges instead of civil rights charges, for example.
It would have been better for Iowa to get the shot at her first.
