The Hollywood actor lost his natural voice after a surgery for throat cancer in 2015, shattering his career and permanently altering the way he communicates. That is, until late last year when Sonantic, a UK-based software firm that clones voices for actors and studios, helped Kilmer to speak again.

Wife and I watched that a few days ago.
Val as Doc Holiday is the best character ever.

Not only did Kilmer not get an Oscar for that performance, he wasn’t even nominated. That puzzles me to this day.
It’s ridiculous. Someone obviously didn’t grease the right palms.
That, or they just don’t like Val.
I found the Amazon documentary difficult to watch.
Puzzles me too as that was one of the greatest acting performances in film. Every line was delivered perfectly! I thought Val and even Michael Biehn (Johnny Ringo) owned that movie. Amazing gunfight at the end. “You we’re just too high strung” LOL
Bkmrk
“Why Johnny Ringo, you look somebody just walked over your grave.”
Why? It was pretty good.
‘Hollywood’ doesn’t like Westerns anymore...................
I found the Amazon documentary difficult to watch.
I didn’t finish it either. It was weird, actually from what I seen an interesting documentary of his youth, the Hollywood lifestyle, and what you can achieve with hard work. But he looked so weak and pathetic it somehow turned me off. Another thing was his obsession with filming and documenting/storing every moment of his life, that bordered on insanity.
I did have a stray thought, “Money can’t buy you happiness.” All his money and power could not save him from wilting on the vine.
Yes, but the scene where Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp slaps Billy Bob around in the saloon ("I said throw down, boy!") is just as good.
You didn’t know that Kilmer has always been a little weird, self absorbed, and difficult to work with?
Now you know.
My sentiments also. Without knowing who he really is, his seemingly hippy-like parents and his life at Juilliard was about all I could take.
The voice-over in the film “Val” wasn’t AI, it was Kilmer’s son, Jack.
Yes, I watched this. I thought it was a little disjointed, and-—from a fan’s perspective-—spent too much time on other periods and too little on his really big, indeed, iconic roles of Iceman and Doc Holliday. Also too little on his marriage breakup, but, like Heath Ledger, him getting into the Morrison part hurt his private life badly.
The trick for the rest of us will be to collect enough audio to be used as source material.
Don’t get me wrong, I love that movie, but it’s always funny to me to see people use the image of them walking through Tombstone to the shoot out as a bad ass meme when in reality what’s happening is they are the government going to confiscate innocent people’s guns.
