LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Two Los Angeles City councilmembers have introduced a motion that would require people to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination in order to enter certain indoor public spaces.
“We know now that even with vaccination we can get sick so I have to protect my staff,” said Stephanie Domalain, general manager of the Hill Street restaurant.
Under the motion introduced by Council President Nury Martinez and Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell Wednesday, people who have to show proof of having received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine in order to dine indoors in restaurants or bars, or to visit gyms, concert venues, movie theaters, stadiums and retailers.
“Enough is enough already,” Martinez said in a statement. “Hospital workers are exhausted, moms who have put aside their careers are tired, and our kids cannot afford the loss of another school year. We have three vaccines that work and are readily available, so what’s it going to take? Our kids are about to return to school and the unvaccinated are putting their lives at risk every day. Ask your questions, talk to your doctor, and get the vaccine. Let’s put this behind us.”
New York City approved a similar law Tuesday.
“Even just suggesting that will hopefully incentivize a lot more people to get vaccinated,” said Carmen Llerena, a restaurant administrator. This comes as L.A. County sees a major spike in coronavirus cases over the last several weeks brought on by the highly contagious Delta variant. COVID-19 hospitalizations have nearly quadrupled in the last month, with 1,138 coronavirus patients hospitalized countywide as of Tuesday.
L.A. County recorded 2,293 new cases Tuesday as well.
From Jan. 1 through June 30, 99.8% of the people who have died from COVID-19 in L.A. County were unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated, L.A. County Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer has previously reported.
In mid-July, L.A. County resumed the requirement that masks be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status.
The motion also instruct the city attorney to develop an enforcement mechanism for the proposed ordinance.
This certainly didn't take long.
They always use soft words like “request” and consider.”
Guess a lot of people won’t be going out.
Oh well I guess this means I wont be going out anytime soon. No big loss..Im fully vaccinated but I won’t stand for this totalitarian BS. This is the United States, NOT Communist China..I thought the left always would scream “My Body My Choice” now its “Get the shot or lose all your freedom” f them
SEIU employees are always ready to play the role of “Enforcer”.
The Purple People Beaters
This country is going to shit pretty quickly.
That would be the equivalent to Hitler’s Gestapo, IMO. This will not end well for the Marxist Left unless they’re looking for civil disobedience to create and aid their false flag like January 6th.
This is absolutely appalling. It will certainly be interesting to see how this goes over with the public, but it would be astonishing if there is significant resistance based on the way people in this town seem to be reacting to the dread Delta variant.
Concilmember Mitch is worried about health and isolating viruses? Okay....
True but will we start shooting over it? Will there be any "civil disobedience"? My answer is NO on both.
What the vile Nazi pigs at KCBS refuse to mention is that LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva will refuse to enforce the mask dictate.
If you don’t have a pro-2nd amendment, constitutional sheriff in your county, elect one now. This sheriff has the legal and armed muscle to take care of gestapo pig cops.
The motion specifically mentions “retail establishments”, so it will be interesting to see how broadly that gets applied at the outset. Certainly the end goal would be to require their “passport” everywhere. It was pointed out to me in the past that if they include food stores as prohibited places, people might actually take some action to resist.
Maybe. We’ll be finding out in short order, I guess.
If anyone was going to resist, they would have done so when BLM and Antifa were breaking windows and burning buildings in West Hollywood and Santa Monica.
People are going to go along with this.
The only practical alternative is to leave. Move to a free state. And not everyone has the resources to do that, especially at the drop of a hat like this.
Awaiting the inclusion of grocery stores on the list.
Economic collapse...
They literally want to cut off access to food for those who fail to comply with the fascist dictates of The State.
Well, that is a “retail establishment”. The language in the motion is broad enough to cover them.
Would that be a ‘bridge too far’ in Los Angeles?
Hard to say. The wealthier, whiter areas are more highly vaxxed, and there’s a fair level of resistance in black and Hispanic neighborhoods. So there might be sufficient resistance in south LA or Eastlos to make this impractical, but none of my neighbors are going to stand up and resist, I don’t think.
This will finish off those restaurants, gyms and theaters.
Some in LA will approve since most of the fascists live in LA..the rest wont stand for this BS. I stand in solidarity with folks who are NOT vaccinated. I understand why they wont get the shot. I got mine, do I regret it, sort of, I got it thinking Ok life will be normal now, but it isn’t, nothing has changed..vaccinated can still spread it to other vaccinated people, I know a few who that happened to, so what is the point of showing a vaccination card, they can still spread the virus too..this is nothing more than discrimination
All planned and by design to support their genocide goals.
