For a potential presidential candidate who had built up a good amount of conservative goodwill, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is projecting the wrong message to keep her name circulating in the hat. Admittedly, I was hopeful for her just a few months ago, but her actions since then have been made me back away.
The latest example of embracing Republican Establishment corporatism is abysmal. What’s worse is that she demonstrated her embrace of one of the most hated industries today among MAGA conservatives: Big Pharma.
“Workers whose employers are mandating a vaccine for continued employment have the power to say no. Our robust economy and job market gives them the option to find a new employer that values personal choice and responsibility, and doesn’t force mandates on their employees.”

“Or force them to fire you first, so you can file unemployment.”
If you get fired you can’t get unemployment.
But you would not be forcing anything on anyone with that criteria. It's a whole different thing saying you can't work here unless you get this questionable injection.
A person who decides to quit over the choice/no choice can organize others and strike with the idea that they will be losing their job, maybe change company policy, then quit if nothing changes.
The Governor cannot advocate for a strike I am thinking.
Between this and her veto of the bill that would have prevented biological boys from competing in girls’ sports (and taking showers with them!), I am done with her. She had a political future but I will now actively oppose her if she ever tries to run for national office. We now know exactly who she is.
What else is she supposed to do or say?
You are welcome to spend $$$$$$ trying to get it to the USSC, but you better be loaded with cash.
You will lose.
Um, stand up for individual liberty and freedom?
“The problem is that Noem is accepting the premise of the Left.”
If your employer accepts the premise of the Left, do you really want to work for them?
There are many many reasons not to work for a leftist company besides them making you get a vaccine.
I don’t really have a problem with her saying this. It’s as much a message to companies (in a tight labor market) willing to alienate their workforce to the point where they might quit, as it is to employees who do not want to meet their employers requirements for continued employment.
What does an employer vaccine mandate have to do with not being passed by Congress and upheld by SCOTUS which is the only court recognized by the U.S. Constitution?
“What else is she supposed to do or say?”
She could say, “Ley them eat cake.”
Medical employers require all kinds of shots, you either get the shots or get fired.
It has been to court many times and the employer has the right.
I do think that companies should assume liability for any injuries that occur because of their forced vaccination but sadly OSHA has caved on this.
There is a law on the books or a situation that they can invoke to require everybody to take a vaccine, even experimental, emergency use authorized vaccines. It’s part of the Patriot Act iirc.
In the case of a Biological attack.
Make a bit more sense now? Now, they probably can’t, or won’t admit to invoking that, because it raises too many inconvenient questions and political considerations so they have to come up with all this other jiggery-pokery as distraction. And the vaccine itself may well be a debacle of epic proportion for years, we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not sure this is what is happening, but it fits, because ordinarily they cannot force anyone to participate in experimental clinical trials.
I get that, but the fact remains, refusing to hire a drug user and telling someone they can't work there unless the get a questionable injection into their body are two very different things.
Well, employers follow the lead of elected officials. If Noem would have simply said an employer vaccine mandate wouldn't see the light of day in SD, that renders the rest of your argument moot.
do you really want to work for them?
Under no circumstances would I work for an employer that required a vaccine mandate, and I already have legal counsel and paperwork proactively written should my 2 jobs require the jab.
There are many many reasons not to work for a leftist company besides them making you get a vaccine.
Well, again - they're leftist only because they're following the dictates of the elected officials who are too chicken-s--t to stand up for individual choice and liberty.
I don’t really have a problem with her saying this.
I do. This is the 2nd consecutive issue where Noem has folded like a cheap suit. This woman obviously doesn't have what it takes to make it to the Majors.
It’s as much a message to companies (in a tight labor market) willing to alienate their workforce to the point where they might quit, as it is to employees who do not want to meet their employers requirements for continued employment.
So in a tight Labor market it's better to let workers choose to get the jab in which that will make the tight labor market even tighter?
Not pertaining to the fake pandemic COVID it doesn't.
It has been to court many times and the employer has the right.
Until SCOTUS issues a landmark decision then it's still ballgame son. Circuit, state, and appeals courts aren't the final arbitrators.
Not quite. Try not hiring someone who is gay or a trans and tell me how that works out for you in your right to work state.
Forcing an experimental vaccine on someone as a condition for employment is just wrong and shouldn’t be allowed by any level of government.
How is this not analogous to the “Guns in your car in the parking lot” issue? I realize that in general conservatives don’t favor placing limits on employment negotiations but we realized the necessity for legislation on that issue. Today a great proportion of workplaces are run either by the woke or those who won’t stand up to them. Finding another job may not be practical counsel.
“because ordinarily they cannot force anyone to participate in experimental clinical trials.”
The shots out now aren’t part of clinical trials. The shots out now are approved for emergency use.
The annual flu shots are hit or miss trials every year.
But some people are required to get the flu shots every year.
She’s falling into the standard gop mindset that lets the democrats keep moving the goalposts.
