Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky on Friday suggested that the Biden administration may be looking into a federal vaccine mandate.
In an interview on Fox News Friday, Walensky was asked if she supported such a vaccine mandate, to which she said it's something she “thinks” the administration is “looking into.”
“You know, that's something that I think the administration was looking into. It's something that I think we're looking to see approval of from the vaccine,” Walensky said.
“Overall, I think in general I am all for more vaccination. But, you know—I have nothing further to say on that except that we're looking into those policies. And, quite honestly as people were doing that locally, those are individual local decisions as well,” she continued.
The Hill has reached out to the White House and CDC for comment.
The comment comes as discussions of vaccine mandates accelerate due to an increase in coronavirus infections fueled by the delta variant.
President Biden has directed federal employees and onsite contractors to show that they are vaccinated or submit to weekly virus testing. The president said Thursday that he’d like to see private companies and state governments mandate vaccinations, as well.
New York City, California and a handful of private companies have introduced vaccine mandates in recent weeks, but the White House signaled earlier on Friday that a national COVID-19 mandate was not under consideration.
White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters “a national vaccine requirement is not under consideration at this time.”

I listened to this interview and the doctpr tried to be oh sooo sympathetic to those yet unvacinated and the children who have to wear masks in school. My impression was she was like I totally understand, which were her exact words....but the underlying tone vwas you will do what we say for your own good. Also she mentioned if their data points to it they have booster shots ready. She could not answer which vacinnes worked best against Delta moderna or pffizer? Not enough data she said. She could not answer is you could have the JJ and also take moderna or pfizzer...again not enough data. Go figure!

I got cajoled into taking the Pfizer shots (no known after effects, but I am now in bed with fever and body aches from some virus or other). But no f’ing way that I will take any booster shots. If they tighten the screws, they create a black market. It’s already happening in France where medical professionals are selling vaccine cards. Where I live the sheriff deputy only makes $40K a year. Wouldn’t be hard to bribe law enforcement. Government restrictions make a ripe environment for tax free black market income.
I don’t see an uprising coming. Half the people in America already submitted to being vaccinated with an experimental drug.

The Federal government does not have the general power and authority to mandate universal vax.

This will be implemented the same way that CalOSHA tried to push vaccinations six weeks ago. It boiled down to setting up a system, using the existing worker safety laws, that puts the onus on the employer to become the vaccine enforcement arm of the government.
In their system, if you didn’t put in place a mandatory vaccine policy (they worded it differently, but that was the effect), you assumed a fairly large administrative burden to identify the vaxed and the unvaxed, put in place “safety” measures to “protect” the vaxed from the unvaxed (I know) etc. There was no force involved though. Perfectly free to operate without it, as long as you’re willing to accept the costs and the liability (all it takes is one disgruntled employee and you’ve got a CalOSHA headache to deal with).
So, we’re a privately held company. We decided to respect people’s privacy, and just assume the costs and the risks. Larger corporations won’t do that. We’re already seeing this, today, in the medical field, and if there’s a “mandate”, as discussed in the posted article, other industries will grumble, but will comply.
So who will enforce the jab if they mandate the vax for employment? The employers will. No publicly traded company will rebel. Some mom and pop operators will fight, but they will be cleaned up in detail.
Retail? Combination of worker safety laws, business license enforcement, and who knows, fines for the businesses that resist.
Banking? Do you really think that Wells Fargo will violate a federal policy that they require customers to prove their vax status? No way.
There will be no rounding up and putting people in gulags, because no significant numbers of people will resist a mandate with force.
None of this is new, just the context is changed.
I think that from their perspective, that’s a feature, not a fault.
