The Biden administration announced Thursday it will allow a nationwide ban on evictions to expire Saturday, arguing that its hands are tied after the Supreme Court signaled it would only be extended until the end of the month.
The White House said President Joe Biden would have liked to extend the federal eviction moratorium due to spread of the highly contagious delta variant. Instead, Biden called on “Congress to extend the eviction moratorium to protect such vulnerable renters and their families without delay.”
The moratorium was put in place last September by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Given the recent spread of the delta variant, including among those Americans both most likely to face evictions and lacking vaccinations, President Biden would have strongly supported a decision by the CDC to further extend this eviction moratorium to protect renters at this moment of heightened vulnerability,” the White House said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has made clear that this option is no longer available.”
The court mustered a bare 5-4 majority last month, to allow the eviction ban to continue through the end of July. One of those in the majority, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, made clear he would block any additional extensions unless there was “clear and specific congressional authorization.”

The government has created an awful mess with this moratorium, leaving renters and landlords both with a disaster to remediate. Landlords want to collect arrearages and raise rent to compensate them for debt they’ never collect, and renters want all arrearages wiper out. Again, good intentions without forethought has done immense and irreparable harm. Liberals refuse to understand free market economics and won’t admit when they have botched things up.
My mom’s tenant could have paid...she found that out when she gave them notice and they tried to make a cash deal. Now they’re being forced out when everyone else will be looking for a place to live.
Damn good question. Of course, if they just "Identify" as vaccinated that would probably be OK with the left.
It would be nice if the Supreme Court ruled real fast that mandatory vaccinations are not Constitutional, but I don't have much confidence that will happen.
With average rents at $2000 a month (but fill in your own number) and bewteen 11 and 16 months of moratorium, these snowflakes could be on the hook for an average of $27,000 a pop.

I fear that SCOTUS would rule that mandatory vaccines are constitutional. I don’t remember the case but during the smallpox vaccines, there was a ruling that basically said that unless you can provide a medical reason to not get the vaccine, not only can they be required but the state can use force to make it happen.

And most all these deadbeats could’ve still afforded to pay their rents all this time from the enhanced unemployment they received or wages they were continuing to make! No sympathy for these soon to be evicted deadbeats!
I know a few have, but most viewed it as free money.
One of my kid’s friends lived high off the hog with the stimmy, no rent, and UI money.
They were blasting loud and angry on social media how unfair it was they have to start working next week, and how they don’t know if they mental health can stand it.
Same person was in big box stores four times a week. I told them “Work at Costco. Good company, good wages, and decent hours.”
The thing I could never figure out was why were people given stimulus and enhanced unemployment benefits if it wasn’t to be used to pay basic living expenses like rent and utilities?
