Not a drop to drink: Water shortages in Iran cause wave of protests

Street protests broke out overnight over severe water shortages in Iran's oil-rich southwest, according to Iranian news outlets and videos posted on social media on Friday, as the country faces its worst drought in 50 years.

Videos showed protesters setting fire to tires to block a road and security forces were seen trying to disperse the crowds as some shots were heard. Reuters could not independently verify the videos' authenticity.

"State television should report what we are saying and show the image of the buffaloes that perished from lack of water," an elderly protester said on a video carried by the regional Asrejonoob news website.

Don’t feel too sorry since President Retard lifted sanctions and they can trade oil for water if they can’t figure out desalination.

Gee. I wonder what it was like a few thousand years ago. Clean running rivers with lots of plant life or was it always desert like?

I read a book written in the 1800s that described Moslem agricultural methods as slothenly. I know they love their goats but if not managed, goats are basically four legged locusts.

What percentage of desert area in the world is man made? (and not due to recent “climate change”)

It seems more and more countries are more concerned about fluff social issues than real quality of life issues.

They just had power outages there that the people were protesting. Now it’s a water shortage. Sounds like Commiefornia.

Run some pipes from Belgium/Gremany/Switerland. I hear they have some extra dihydrogen monoxide.

Mother Nature causes droughts. Politicians cause water shortages. Build dams, reservoirs, lakes, etc. Any place to catch rain. OTOHand, if there is no rain, why are you living there? Who do you think you are, some idiot who simply must live in LA?

Just wait until 52m Californians erupt in protest. They are about to get hit with a double whammy. No water and massive blackouts. Hoover Dam is about to lose a major portion of its generation capability when a decision has to be made whether to produce electricity or drinking water. When the intake pipes for Las Vegas go above the water level, its game over for Nevada. This is all suppose to happen before the end of 2021.

California is failing to plan with no new desal plants. The latest has been Carlsbad, CA. It produces 55m gallons a day and I doubt the good citizens are willing to provide water to other Californians.

Las Vegas will not run out of water until Lake mead hits 860 ft MSL the third intake was tunneled in under the deepest part of the lake and the pumping station went online in April of this year. The current two other intakes are at 1050’ and 1000’ MSL. Lake mead enters dead pool at 895 feet MSL where the lowest outlet gate is located at which means no water can be released from the lake at that depth. Vegas still has 35 feet of water to draw down from a lake that at that point will still hold a few millions of acre feet. Vegas is allowed 300,000 ACFT per year in withdraws but recycles 200,000 acre feet per year via the Las Vegas wash they draw 400,000 total for a net use of 200,000 lost primarily to evaporation in lawns and cooling towers. Every drop of water that hits a drain in Las Vegas goes to a treatment plant and is put into the Las Vegas wash to flow back to lake mead. Vegas is the North American leader in water recycling 100% Of residential and commercial inside water is recycled. They are second only to Singapore in their recycling skills. The last 35 feet in the dead pool of lake mead would last Vegas a decade or more with their level of recycling.

Lake Mead Water Level
WATER LEVEL

Level is 161.02 feet
below full pool of 1,229.00
Change Since Yesterday: 0.11 Feet
