A microchip shortage is translating to higher car prices across America.
CBS reported that the average price of a new car has topped $40,000 and that used car prices have risen nearly 30 percent due to the shortage.
Lansing, Michigan, resident Heather Lyons knows that firsthand.
In looking to buy a replacement for a totaled car, she said she will end up paying more to get less, according to WILX-TV.
“It really is bad. My car payment last time for a decent vehicle was something I could afford and this time it’s going to be a worse vehicle for more than I was paying before,” Lyons said.
She said she is paying $4,000 more than she did for a similar car a year ago.
Dealers admit prices are high.

“Well my 100hp truck gets about 8 mpg going 48 mph and has 4 shift levers, no power steering and drum brakes all around.”
Your point?
Answer: not yet.
“Maybe you need that, but a lot of us don’t.”
Maybe you don’t need that, but a lot of us do.
“To have Navigation like the Ford guy. you’d could pick up a used Sextant ...”
Wow!
Yeah, I know the name of the device is racist or something. But without that device, how else can a guy with a very old truck get Navigation?
How did you get 1.9 liter?

Cellphone or tablet.
You can get a $79 tablet with GPS and download maps when on WiFi.
Democrats have been selling us out to China for years... We should ask Hunter Biden about the particulars... then ask the other half of DC...
You do know that it was joke, right?
In 2008, when I bought new, that was what was available. At that time, those yaris were imported only and made entirely in Japan. Again, at that time, Japan/Toyota only made the 1.9L there and not in other countries. I don’t know what engine is oem now, or if the hatchback is even made, because I haven’t seen new ones on the road.
Bought from a dealership 200 miles away over the phone. It was one of the last black ones available in the Toyota SE region on the lot. Wait time after that was 2-3 months for more to be shipped.
Maybe my memory is incorrect and it was 1.5L, but I recall it was 1.9
“Maybe my memory is incorrect ...”
Now, about that 3rd gear chirp?
Knock it off.
I looked at the paperwork. 1.9
And yes third gear chirp.
Typo 1.5
I would buy a car with no chips and no electronics in a heartbeat.
If so, Intel should do better selling to the auto plants or they need better lobbyists to push for protection of their products.

Strange that people were swapping out the 1.9 for the 1.8 Corolla engine?
Wait until 2030, if all new cars must be electric by 2035 you're bound to find some deals on some gas powered vehicles.
