Supermarkets are stocking up on everything from sugar to frozen meat before they get more pricey, girding for what some executives anticipate will be some of the highest price increases in recent memory.
Some supermarkets said they are buying and storing supplies to keep their shelves full amid stronger demand. Grocery sales in the U.S. for the week ended June 19 rose about 15% from two years earlier and increased 0.5% from a year earlier, according to Jefferies and NielsenIQ data.
Stockpiling by food retailers is driving shortages of some staples, grocery industry executives said, and is challenging a U.S. food supply chain already squeezed by transportation costs, labor pressure and ingredient constraints.

What they can stockpile.
Since the start of covid, many markets limit what a consumer can buy at one time. Aldi’s limits much of the canned goods to 4 cans at a time.
We used to buy cases years ago, when on sale of course. No more allowed.
Stores know a second lock down will be attempted.
which is driving up food prices...
I’ll walk on the deck, shoot an elk, walk back in.
It will be rough being in an urban setting once things really get rolling.
Got a package of meat yesterday which looked like it had been shrunk in half for the same price. But the press won’t blame this pig president.
Pick off a few dozen Canadian geese and pigeons too will you?
Venezuela here we come.
Busted my behind, put in a significant garden so I could can and stockpile food. I have more than enough canning jars and rings for my purposes from years ago. I go to buy the canning lids and find the Covid bottleneck striking again. No lids for any price! This situation results in me buying the entire jar with lid so as not to throw away my produce. There’s no escaping this manufactured Covid BS.
Interestingly here in CA there is still some sort of food bank surplus.
How do I know?
A neighbor started collecting all the food about to be tossed from the public school food distribution weirdness. They are like government feeding centers.
Appalled at the waste she began picking it up and putting it in her garage. She distributes to all who ask. Others have heard and are also donating. I don’t know all her suppliers. Stores and other food banks?
While I am in no danger of starvation and have told her so she encourages me to come get a few bags. Which I do every week or so. I get apples and carrots and onions and frozen cheese and yogurt and coffee and crackers and canned goods and I don’t know what all. Cereal.
Strange days.
according to mspca site ....Pigs are actually very clean animals; if they are given sufficient space, pigs are careful not to soil the areas where they sleep or eat. But in factory farms, they are forced to live in unsanitary conditions — in their own feces, urine, vomit and the corpses of other pigs.
But another question:
Do pigs eat feces?
"Most of them eat feces because it contains some undigested food—and thus vital nutrients—that would otherwise go to waste."
IMHO the Leftists including Biden are worse.
Around here, people will take deer if need be, season be damned. I started a meat goat herd last year and have a buckling I could take if need be. Next year, I’ll definitely be putting any bucklings in the freezer. Gotta keep the doelings and build up the herd. Wife thought I was crazy for spending $3,500 to fence in 12 acres for $1,000 worth of goats until she saw empty meat dept shelves last year. $4500 will buy you zero of something that doesn’t exist.

How about government food rationing?
Could be enforced by Newsom, Whitmer and Cuomo.
Tell people: You loved wearing masks. You adored paying reparations. You’re gonna like getting cozy with rationing, too.
We are all in this together. A public service announcement paid for by Toyota, Disney and Nike. Because we care.
Lumber prices dropped. 2X6X12 was 22 bucks. Went yesterday and was only 15 bucks.
I’ve not seen price increases. There’s as much food as before and as many eaters. Just as much TP being made and just as many butts that need wiping.
Made-up non-crisis.
When you import millions of ILLEGALS they tend to consume. And don’t get me started about their spawn.
Those geese are rascals, get a lot of those and swans too in the summer.
That’s exactly it.
All the money in the world won’t help you if it’s not available.
Sounds like you’re doing great work, and you have the right mindset.
If there is a ‘Rural king’ in your area they have good stocks of canning supplies and tools. Good prices too.
