Chicago community leaders are pressuring Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) to declare a “State of Emergency” regarding the city’s gun crime.
Breitbart News reported nearly 100 people were shot Friday night, July 2, through Monday, July 5, in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago. That weekend violence followed a Thursday in which 32 people were shot, including a one-month-old girl.
On July 7, 2021, the Chicago Tribune noted that 2,021 people had been shot in Chicago so far this year. That figure represents 164 more people than were shot during the same time frame in 2020.

That’s her story, she’s sticking to it. Progressives are fine with that.

The only act of emergency that will work would be to remove Mayor Beetlejuice ASAP

Probably a gun buy-back and a live Stop the Violence rap concert, as well as the obligatory bashing of Trump and white supremacy.

This idea is being pushed strongly by the Democrat/communist/Left as a result of America's recent experience with the covid cooties. When a governor (or mayor or even some unelected bureaucrat) declares an "emergency" they now have the authority to suspend the U.S. Constitution until it's "safe" again ... and can do so with the support -- if not outright encouragement -- of the citizenry who value "absolute safety" above all else ... above everything and anything else ... a petty tyrant's utopian dream!

So they declare a state of emergency. Then what? "Now we need to go community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes door to door, literally knocking on doors"

Great question. A good reporter would have looked into that, and included it in the article. Such is the state of journalism today.
But maybe it was in the article. Breitbart is so polluted with ads I could barely follow the story at all.

State of Emergency = "make those who fled the crime that Democrats created in Chicago pay for it".
Send the bill instead to Antifa, Communist Black Lives MatterTM, and the Democrat Party.

Why was the disgraced Fr. Flakey interviewed? Isn’t he “suspended” due to allegations of pedophilia? Chicago is in a free fall and this ridiculous buffoon is pushing it along. There are lots of taxpayer dollars available by keeping the shameful revolving door Illinois justice system spinning along. How I would love to see ptrixter, lightfoot, kim foxx (she’s the one pushing the revolving door) and flakey breaking rocks in the hot sun!

There’s a solution but they won’t do what’s necessary. Have to outlaw gangs and start punishing severely those ferals who participate. They get away with crimes because they can and with little fear of reprisals. Put the fear in them bigtime and enforce crackdowns with teeth and muscle. Break up the gangs and seize all their weapons. Deal harshly with troublemakers or keep getting the same piss poor incompetent failures.

The term "gun crime" is a non sequitir. Guns can't commit crimes because they're inanimate objects. It's the same as calling drunk driving "automobile crime." But they use the term anyway as misdirection, to obfuscate the fact that the problem is their governance is utterly ineffectual and they have failed in one of their chief obligations: to provide their citizens with a safe environment.
