Rosendo “Ross” Prieto, who previously served as a municipal official in Florida and once told Champlain Towers South board members that their building was in “very good shape,” has left his new job.
A Doral spokesman confirmed Prieto is presently on a leave of absence from a contracting business position that offers services to the city. Prieto assured Champlain Towers South board members in 2018 that their property was solid, a claim which followed an engineering company’s warning that it possessed structural deficiencies. The firm said sizeable repairs were needed to fix the building’s various issues.

Actually, there were several minutes of super loud “popping” as cracks opened up from the roof, downward, and the parking deck roof pieces fell down.
Wonder how much he stashed in his mattress before he resigned.
This guy is lucky he doesn’t live in China.
The original developers are likely to be off the hook completely. Florida has a “statute of repose” law that comes into play here. It’s similar to a statute of limitations, but it basically says that if a building has been standing for X years (I think it’s 15 in Florida; it’s 25+ in the state where I’ve done most of my work) then the law presumes that there are no actionable defects in the design or construction.
I don’t see Florida licensed Professional Engineer in the field of Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, so he is NOT qualified to assess the building’s structural adequacy or condition.
I did not know that about Florida, thanks for the information.
Hope he has a good argument vs the engineers report that said the building had structural deficiencies.
So, “climate change” caused Rosendo “Ross” Prieto to lie about the building that collapsed?
He's gonna be lucky if he gets out of prison before he dies of old age.
Concrete, rebar, salt, sand, heat, humidity...not a matter of if but when.
... GIGGLES ...
Any guess as to how much vigorish this POS collected from building owners over the years he worked at this job.
I bet its a lot of money he has salted away, and he will go abroad to a nation that has no extradition agreement with the USA, and live on his ill gotten gains.
He should be indicted and jailed before he gets that chance to run.
“I don’t see Florida licensed Professional Engineer in the field of Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, so he is NOT qualified to assess the building’s structural adequacy or condition.”
So it has the value of a statement made by Romney?
Why were so many policemen needed?
I’ve been involved in construction defect cases. Everyone gets sued. The builders, the building material makers and suppliers, the county inspectors, the general contractors, the special contractors, the building owners, the architects, the building maintenance companies...
The deep pocket will likely be the county. The building inspector had to sign off on each phase of the building.
There may have been some palms greased along the way. Someone will most likely be going to prison.
There will be hundreds of defendants.
