Rosendo “Ross” Prieto, who previously served as a municipal official in Florida and once told Champlain Towers South board members that their building was in “very good shape,” has left his new job.
A Doral spokesman confirmed Prieto is presently on a leave of absence from a contracting business position that offers services to the city. Prieto assured Champlain Towers South board members in 2018 that their property was solid, a claim which followed an engineering company’s warning that it possessed structural deficiencies. The firm said sizeable repairs were needed to fix the building’s various issues.

Any investigation of corrupt south Florida officials will be like an Alice in Wonderland voyage—the rabbit hole will lead everywhere and anywhere...
It would be easier to throw all of them in jail now and then try to figure out what happened....
Really the owners have the bulk of the liability, I guess the estate of the pancakes will be sued.

What do you think it’s hard to imagine - yes the palpable fear !! day in and day out that
Miami and south Florida Florida residents are going to be feeling who live in the 12 -30 story 40 plus year old apartment complexes and condos
I know a lot of us have been on this planet a long time and I’ve seen a lot of crazy stuff i.e. construction catastrophes and collapses
But are you with me that that was somewhat frightening that that entire 12 story building just collapsed into a pile of rubble in a matter of seconds?
I was reminded of the giant building in Gaza that Israel blew up with three cruise missiles and the way that it collapsed into rubble
But wait a minute three cruise missiles actually hit that it just a point where it would cause the collapse
As far as we know and I can’t believe anything different there is no such attack on the structural integrity of this seaside building
And it’s going to be almost impossible for engineers in that giant pile of rubble when they can’t even find 160 poor souls who were crushed
A real engineering review that would determine the final cars of that spectacular Collapse. to figure out exactly why did that happened
So now let’s just say you’re living in the building next-door or a very similar building built at the same time
How can you not have tremendous anxiety now?
Again just to reiterate that was a spectacular frightening collapse
How much was the bribe he received to issue that glowing report?
There are gonna be many,many lawyers who make serious,serious $$$ out of this.
Some surviving owners have already sued the association.
With a caper like this, everyone is going to get sued.
The owners, if they rented out their units.
The association. Every engineer and contractor who’s ever worked on the project. The owners and developers of the building next door. The original developers of the project, along with the general contractor and architect if they are still around.
And now it looks like there’s a chance that the city of surfside will also be sued.
It’s going to go on for many, many years.
There are lawyers who move in to these units when they’re first completed. Their job is to find defects and sue. I don’t think they’re into issues of this magnitude. Could be wrong.
There are probably more lawyers than rescue workers on site.

Lawyers can file all the lawsuits they want, but any insurance coverage is probably going to have a limit per incident — and it’s likely to be divided more than 150 ways. This may not be as lucrative for the legal profession as it seems at first glance.
