It is Time to End Compulsory Public Education
The Reactionary ^ | Techno Fog

It is Time to End Compulsory Public Education. . What is mandated public education but enslavement of the young?

The State is teaching second graders “restorative justice.”. High schoolers are instructed that their families “reinforce racist/homophobic prejudices.” Government officials – teachers and school board members – are targeting parents for their opposition to the teachings of critical race theory.

And we grovel to the State, begging them to make it stop.

This is not the profile of a free people.

The fight against the government’s efforts to teach and promote evil will always exist as long as there are public schools. The evil may be different in degree – it won’t always be critical race theory ...

Mandated education is a relatively new idea in the West....

By what authority does a State have to compel attendance at a government school?

The Supreme Court has held that students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate.5 What of the right to not attend school?

Is the right to not be forced to attend a government school lesser than the freedom of speech?

..

“By what authority does a State have to force a child attend a government school, where they are taught poisonous and evil doctrines?”

I disagree that this is a power inherent to a State. This wasn’t a power accepted at the formation of this country or when the Constitution was drafted. Even where there were laws mandating schooling, they didn’t mandate public education. There’s a big difference there.

To that you might say it’s the consent of the governed: “The voters gave the State the authority to compel public education.”

My parents never gave the State that authority. Did yours?

....

End public schools and institute refundable tax credits for parents who send their daughters and sons to private schools.

Public schools, and “ universities “, are the primary reasons that our constitutional republic is on life support.

Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc. etc.

— Tenth plank of communism

…(Y)ou say, we destroy the most hallowed of relations when we replace home education by social.

And your education! Is not that also social, and determined by the social conditions under which you educate, by the intervention direct or indirect, of society, by means of schools, etc.? The Communists have not invented the intervention of society in education; they do but seek to alter the character of that intervention, and to rescue education from the influence of the ruling class.

The bourgeois claptrap about the family and education, about the hallowed co-relation of parents and child, becomes all the more disgusting the more by the action of Modern Industry—all the family ties among the proletarians are torn asunder and their children transformed into simple articles of commerce and instruments of labor. …

— Manifesto, chapter 2
Huge hypocrisy by the commies on display: whereas on one hand they accuse the bourgeoisie of destroying the proletarian family, the communist solution is to not repair the damage they accuse the bourgeoisie of but instead aggravate and exacerbate it by abolishing the family in all cases. Never mind make education conditions worse by further socializing it.

Yes, it is pointless to continue the “compulsory” aspect of this institution, as the “education” component was abandoned long ago. Why send your kids to some local brick building, if the only purpose would be for political indoctrination and demoralization. That specifically regarding the woke transgender insanity, which will sometime soon have their own elementary school counselor and advocate. I say, the hell with it.

I get the drift, but public education is not “compulsory” insofar as any parent can go private. Schooling at home is legal in all states. Only education in general is compulsory, e.g., so many days, these topics etc.

Basically Oregone’s lawmakers have decided to make schools just day care centers with Zero learning.

Oregon students shouldn’t have to prove they can write or do math to get a diploma, lawmakers decide!

The Oregonian ^ | Jun 16, 2021 | Betsy Hammond

Students in the class of 2021 did not have to prove they could write or do math at a basic level to earn their diplomas. A bill headed to Gov. Kate Brown would prohibit any such requirement at least until 2027.

A bill to prohibit Oregon schools from requiring students to show they can read, write and do math at a basic high school level is headed to Gov. Kate Brown after lawmakers gave final approval Wednesday.

The idea is to hit pause on the requirements, in place since 2009 but already suspended during the pandemic, at least until the class of 2024 gets their diplomas and for Oregon to thoughtfully reexamine its graduation requirements in the meantime. A report recommending what the new standards should be is due to the Legislature and Oregon Board of Education by September 2022.

But since Oregon has long insisted it would not impose new graduation requirements on students who have already begun high school, new requirements would not take effect until the class of 2027 at the very earliest. So at least five more classes could be expected to graduate without needing to demonstrate roughly 10th grade level proficiency in math and writing.

The decision to remove the skills requirement was largely but not entirely a party-line one, with Democrats staunchly opposing the proficiency rules and Republicans decrying what they see as a lowering of academic standards.

A spokesperson for Brown told The Oregonian/OregonLive Wednesday she has yet to decide whether she will sign the bill, veto it or allow it to become law without her signature.

Oregon, unlike other states, did not require students to pass a particular standardized test or any test at all. Students could show their ability to use English and do math via about five different tests or by completing an in-depth classroom project judged by their own teachers. In reality, most schools relied primarily on standardized tests and most students easily passed them.

But demonstrating proficiency proved most challenging for students who learned English as a second language, students with disabilities and students of color.

Officials on the Oregon Board of Education, when they enacted the “essential skills” graduation requirement more than a decade ago, said they hoped no student would be denied a diploma for lacking the skills but that schools would step up and help juniors and seniors who hadn’t mastered enough English or math to do so. Many high schools created special math and writing workshop classes for seniors who needed to demonstrate those skills to get their diplomas.

The bill calls on the diverse committee studying graduation requirements to come up with a recommendation “with the goal of ensuring that the processes and outcomes related to the requirements for high school diplomas are equitable, accessible and inclusive.”

this will likely never happen until the last day of human existence but the first thing that would be very effective is to completely eliminate the Federal Dept of Education.

You are correct. I never had children and never will, yet I still have to pay for this bullshit. Plus, I have to pay EXTRA because I don’t have children. I don’t get a deduction for dependents. I get screwed all the way around.

See tagline.

At the very least public education needs reform. A well rounded education that includes and necessitates civics will go a long way in preventing tyranny. Laziness of intellect and mediocrity is the stuff of today’s Democrats.

John Dewey didn’t cause this. Neither did Deming. At least not by themselves.

Most of what he wanted to do in education was pedagogy reform to make learning easier. His ideas can be applied to education without resorting to ideology.

The issue is that education has been infiltrated and consumed by Marxism.

That is not to say Dewey was a saint or always right.

Here is the book you need to know what the real issue with education is.

Only education in general is compulsory, e.g., so many days, these topics etc.

And even that itself is a problem.

The Amish have figured out a way to exempt themselves from an awful lot of the crap that is mandated by our totalitarian government, including education, the military draft, Social Security, Medicare, etc. So clearly there are legal ways to get around all this bullsh!t if people are willing to do the work and make it happen.

I understand your point ,
reality is not all parents can afford that.

For them it is defacto compulsory.

Now, some have moved heaven
and hell to be able to afford it,

yet to say all can achieve that
is akin to me saying

that I can be a NBA star
with my determination
and lofty towering

5 foot 5 inches stature.

I can ‘ will’ all I want till the sun goes down,,

at 5’5” I can never

’ make it happen’

in the NBA.

Lots of the great men of history taught themselves.

Nice to have outside help yes ,
but not mandatory.

Academia, as is , has got to be neutered.

It is barley short of a

this will likely never happen until the last day of human existence

Homo sapiens survived and prospered prior to public education, and we will do so after it is gone.

Nothing lasts.

The Internet is the beginning of the end. Leftist propaganda continues the process. Public education is on its way to the dustbin of history, but sometimes obsolete institutions continue for many decades after most folks realize they no longer serve a useful purpose.

That’s a key point here, bears repeating.
The solution is vouchers to parents, not support for mandatory government schools.
