Paychecks Cancelled: After Stopping TX Election Integrity Bill, Dem Lawmakers Learn Gov. Abbott Just Vetoed Their Salaries

Want to stop governing in order to stop a bill? In Texas, that’ll stop you from getting paid.

On Friday, Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed funding for the Texas Legislature after the state House Democratic caucus walked out to avoid a vote on an election integrity bill late last month. The move, first reported by the Texas Tribune, would pause all funding for the legislature, its staffers and its agencies.

Abbott said in a statement that “funding should not be provided for those who quit their job early, leaving their state with unfinished business and exposing taxpayers to higher costs for an additional legislative session.”

“I therefore object to and disapprove of these appropriations.”

And that’s the thing — while the Democrats’ walkout may have temporarily stalled the bill, which would have ended 24-hour drive-in voting and temporary outdoor polling places, inter alia, it’ll be added to a special legislative session later this year, along with bail reform legislation championed by Abbott and the GOP.

Don’t insult bacon :) I feel the same way. He is sucking up to get reelected. Politicians live and die by the polls. I am intrigued by Allen West. I am also a long time follower of Chad Prather who has zero experience in politics, but I like his common sense. Does that mean he will make a great governor? Who knows. He is a self made guy. Maybe Texas needs to get some of the old kick a$$ spirit back. We are getting too blue.

They owe no apology. Good grief grow a thicker skin, Hell even Abbot would have probably smiled at that one. I’m an old ARMY Vet and happen to spend about 6 months in a wheel chair back in 71. The chit we gave each other would probably have had you crying and hiding in a safe space.

The ignorance is sickening.

DeSantis shut down FL too.

And he took the state through the County by County phased reopening same as other states.

But DeSantis did throw down the gauntlet and reopened FL quicker than others, why? We’ll get to that shortly.

Yes, DeSantis is a rising star but we have to get the Abbott context right. But first, look at the hell what you’re doing.

All you all that are creating this DeSantis vs. Abbott BS are playing into the hands of the trash that hates conservatives. They look into what you’re doing and they’re smiling. Think about that.

So why is it that Abbott and DeSantis were so far apart in the speed of reopening their states?

Are TX and FL similar? FK NO!

For conservative governors, FL is easier to govern; note “easier” not “easy”.

Yes, TX is a reddish state but so was California. In fact, CA was red.

CA, TX, FL, all are at different points on the path to Blue Hell.

CA is Blue.
TX is red-pink with purple blotches.
FL is red with Blue Broward and Miami-Dade held back by a$$-kickin Cuban Conservatives.

In this context, Abbott is a battalion surrounded by Karl Effin Rove and the Bush-Carlyle Globalist mafia aligned with some of the nastiest leftist law mafia on the planet.

DeSantis, on the other hand is like a division ready to pounce on leftist scumbags and he’s in there offering Abbott reinforcements.

In other words, they’re on the same team and they will cover for each other.

Now what does that make you? Doing what you’re doing makes you look foolish, playing into the hands of the left that salivate at right pitted against right. You’re helping them.

Here’s one way how you get smart:

Abbott is a very good man, a good governor who’s managed to do some very good things given the circumstances he faces.

DeSantis is a firebrand, strong, young, courageous, made of Presidential Timber.

Now don’t you dare badmouth any of these Governors, they’re on the battlefield fighting with what they can grab onto.

And what are you doing?

Abbott is in political trouble. The COVID lockdown, while not as severe as New York or California, caused serious economic consequences, including business closures and massive unemployment. Combined with the February freeze (partially a Federal failure or rather sabotage), Abbott is unpopular, especially among conservatives. In the CPAC meeting, Abbott was in last place in a poll of potential Presidential candidates. He is facing a conservative challenger in the gubernatorial primary who has strong personal financial resources,

So Abbott is pivoting rightward. There is some risk in that strategy. The Democrats are smelling blood as they have been shut out of any statewide offices in this century. Remember that Senator Cruz was re-elected by a 2 point margin in 2018 and that Trump won Texas by only 6 points, the worst Republican Presidential victory margin since 1980. The slippage was partly due to narrowing margins in suburban counties that are controlled by the GOP, thus likely precluding massive voter fraud as an explanation.

He is definitely pivoting rightward, or rather Trumpward. Not only did he announce plans to “build the wall”; he plans to visit the border with Trump.

“Or maybe because the 2022 election is only a year and a half away.”

. . .and he has 2 staunch conservatives declared to run against him in the primary. I still hope it works because if he wins easily, he will go back to his old ways.

I ran against a long-time establishment liberal Republican in a race in 2012. I lost to her, but after spending 8 months in the bosom of the Republican Clubs and Tea Parties, she voted conservatively. When she came up for re-election 2 years later a few people asked me if I was going too run again. I asked how she was doing and they all said, “Just fine.” So, I didn’t run again and another conservative who was running in the same primary as I did is now in the position. I don’t know how staunch she is, but I haven’t heard any complaints.

Abled people, even such as me, fail to understand and are not sensitive because we are not physically challenged. And not exposed to many who are.

Watching any of the Paralympics, for instance, is eye-opening.

For that short-coming i apologize.

I agree and Abbott is going to become more toxic as the aftermath of the lockdowns takes effect in the coming months.

We desperately need a leader in Texas and Abbott's not it.
