Identity crisis: how the politics of race will wreck America
The Spectator ^ | July 2021 | Charles Murray

Posted on 06/17/2021 7:30:58 AM PDT by SomeCallMeTim

First, the white backlash is occurring in the context of long-term erosion in the federal government’s legitimacy. Since 1958, the Gallup polling organization has periodically asked Americans how much they trust the federal government to do what is right. In 1958, 73 percent said ‘always’ or ‘most of the time’. Trust hit its high point in 1964, when that figure stood at 77 percent. Then it began to fall. By 1980, only 27 percent trusted the government to do what is right. That percentage rebounded to the low forties during the Reagan years, then fell to a new low, 19 percent, in 1994. It rebounded again, hitting a short-lived high of 54 percent just after 9/11. Then it plunged again, hitting another new low, 15 percent, in 2011. It has been in the 15- to 20 percent range ever since. A government that is distrusted by more than 80 percent of the citizens has a bipartisan legitimacy problem.

When a government loses legitimacy, it loses some of the allegiance of its citizens. That weakened allegiance means, among other things, a greater willingness to ignore the law. The federal government has enacted thousands of laws and regulations. Many of them apply to every family and every business in the nation. They cannot possibly be enforced by the police or courts without almost universal voluntary compliance. When a government is seen as legitimate, most citizens voluntarily comply because it is part of being a citizen; they don’t agree with every law and regulation, but they believe it is their duty as citizens to respect them. When instead people see laws and regulations as products of the illegitimate use of power, the sense of obligation ends.

Charles Murray is out with a new book and it looks like it's going to be a good one. His previous works, "The Bell Curve" and "Coming Apart" are, I think, some of the most interesting books ever written about American culture. I don't always agree with his recommendations, but is data is extremely interesting. This short piece makes many interesting points.

What happened in 2011 to cause trust in government to drop to an all-time low? Perhaps it was: “If you like your healthcare, you can keep your healthcare”?

Despite all the lying about the source, treatment, and the suppression of discussion about Covid, many are still taking the shot and are mighty proud of it.

Ya think? So do you also think it is by design in the hopes of destroying America? You would be right if you answered yes.

“will wreck?” Sorry, wrong tense. Should be “has wrecked.”

Multiculturalism creates a “low trust” society . Why would anyone trust the government when you can’t even trust your fellow citizen ?

The truly grave danger of refusing to confront race differences in means is that it leads in a straight line to thinking that the only legitimate evidence of a non-racist society is equal outcomes. It appears that the Biden administration already accepts that logic.

Racism is learned behavior. How many times have we read about a violent act on these pages and someone asks: "Do I even need to look?" True, blacks are discriminated against more than other minority groups in the US. What blacks seem incapable of asking is: Why does that discrimination persist? The reason is because of the way blacks behave. Blacks have a social problem of violence and they seem unwilling to address it. George Floyd was arrested multiple times, served 5 years in prison for holding a gun to a pregnant woman's belly, yet is held up by the black community and BLM as the black poster child. What kind of message does that send to everyone else?

Blacks have a problem with violence as the solution to any problem. A black lady is told she can't mix slushy flavors at a fast food restaurant and her solution is to try to beat the crap out of the employee. Did she really think winning that fight was going to let her mix her slushy? Another black shoots a worker because they didn't fix their order fast enough. My guess is shooting someone probably slows their order, not expedite it. This is a black problem and it will take blacks to solve it. Throwing more laws and money at it won't fix it. Blacks need to fix it and I see absolutely zero movement in that direction.

Government rules either by trust or by brute force.

I sometimes use the VA clinic.

When I go there I've realized that if I can steer clear of what I believe to be Affirmitive Action workers, I can get descent service.
Otherwise it can be a nightmare.

As I walked in with my coffee this morning the lead story or at least the blaring story on good morning akerika was the terrible news that only less than 1% of wineries are owned by blacks.

They won’t give up and are stooping as low as they have to go to continue to find something to be outraged about. Way past the point of silliness. It isn’t enough that just about every commercial on the idiot box is dominated by blacks and on and on and on.

There is a race war coming and I know who is going to win it if the cops will just stand aside.

I see tiny microburst of movement from a very few black leaders or entertainers. But, they usually get quickly snuffed out.

I just watched Charles Murray discuss all of this with Tucker Carlson on Fox Nation. The man is a genius and he has some interesting things to say about where we might be headed now that backlashes are beginning to be recognized. The 60% white population along with Latino and many middle class blacks are not going to put up with the persecution and mischaracterization of the white race forever. The American Creed says that each individual is unique and valuable in and of himself or herself in America and is not judged based on a group identity but on his/her own character and ability. The authoritarians want group identity to prevail and rule this country. It is called, “divide and conquer.”

Tucker Carlson just interviewed Murray and it aired last night on Fox Nation. I did a 99 cent one month trial but canceled it. Expires today because there’s not enough content to pay $4-6/mth.

Anyway, they made a few good points. One is that most middle to lower middle class people laugh or just shake their heads at all this stupid race stuff because we’ve worked with a variety of people/races and we get along just fine. It’s academia, msm, politicians and city people that are pushing this crap while most of us just go about our business.

Same with the woke weirdness. Most of us look at “Caitlin”(Bruce) Jenner and either laugh or shake our head in disgust. The freaks and race peddlers are the minority.

We normies just need to start talking to each other and also speaking up on the reality we know, the norms. We outnumber them by 10 to 1. We tend to forget the things we have in common. Decent job, car and a place to live, family and safety as goals.

My first job was at a sheet metal shop in MA and there were whites, blacks and hispanics from a variety of origins. Irish, German, Italian, Haitian, Honduran etc etc. We all got along fine for the most part and have more in common with each other than any of the freaks in academia, msm, politicians, or activists or criminals.

I can relate to his analogy in this article about a garden in the jungle. I’m carving a homestead out of the forest and if I don’t keep ahead, I’ll have zero progress. If I don’t keep up, it will go back to forest.

Wrecking America is the whole point to “the politics of race”. Marxism 101.

But the friends and neighbors of all races all look so happy and harmonious. Glad to see the dog food and toy delivery at the front steps of the townhouse. Going on vacation. Happy they bought the best auto insurance in time from the guy who played the home run hitter Pedro Cerrano in the movie Major League.

Are you saying real life is not adequately reflected in the TV world? I didn't see that one coming.
