We've Been Telling the Alamo Story Wrong for Nearly 200 Years. Now It's Time to Correct the Record
Time ^ | June 9, 2021 | Bryan Burrough

Imagine if the U.S. were to open interior Alaska for colonization and, for whatever reason, thousands of Canadian settlers poured in, establishing their own towns, hockey rinks and Tim Hortons stores. When the U.S. insists they follow American laws and pay American taxes, they refuse. When the government tries to collect taxes, they shoot and kill American soldiers. When law enforcement goes after the killers, the colonists, backed by Canadian financing and mercenaries, take up arms in open revolt.

Tell the Freaks at Time, that we own more guns than any other state.

True. But Wyoming has more guns per capita.

Mexico didn’t get formal independence from Spain until 1821. And the first few Americans invited to Texas were invited by the Spanish, not independent Mexico.

My contention is Texas was NEVER Mexican, it was part of the Spanish Empire, but not Mexico after independence.

From Wikipedia:

After receiving a land grant from the Spanish Crown in 1820, Moses Austin planned to be the first to establish an Anglo-American settlement in Spanish Texas, but he died before his dream was realized. On his deathbed, he pleaded with his son to fulfill his dream to colonize Texas. Stephen led the colony to a now-sovereign Mexico in 1825, and in time, the settlers demanded autonomy and later won independence from Mexico under President Antonio López de Santa Anna, thereby establishing the Republic of Texas.

All Anglo men and women are at fault for everything that has ever happened in history.

We killed the dinosaurs.

We caused the Ice Age.

We caused the next dinosaur period.

And the next Ice Age.

We caused the Tunguska meteor.

We caused the Mount St. Helen’s, Mount Pinatubo, Mount Vesuvius and so many other volcanic eruptions.

We caused the fall of the Persian Empire, the Roman Empire, the various Chinese Dynasty’s, put all the criminals on Australia, caused black people in Africa to sell other black people in Africa to us more than 214 years ago (when it was outlawed in 1807).

Ya know what, pound sand - all of them. QUIT trying to divide us on our paint color. We bleed red, breathe the same air, and sure enough, have all the same body parts, just in different shapes and sizes.

Gun lovers come in lots of calibers.

Lots of women here are excellent shots.

I suspect it is the same in Wyoming.

Cancel culture coming for the Alamo? I'm surprised it took them this long.

Texans, take note!

When Santa Ana threw out the Mexican constitution in 1824, he pissed off the Texans and Mexican citizens. Santa Ana declared himself the Napoleon of the West and made himself dictator.

There is no record to correct.

The author of this stupid article is as full of sh** as a Thanksgiving turkey-and he needs to keep his revisionist nose out of OUR REAL Texas history...

My ancestors got here awhile back-left Spain for the new world in the late 16th century-sometime in the late 1700’s, they had decided the area that is now Texas and New Mexico was far enough away from civilization-and the greedy Spanish crown-to keep their goats, sheep and grow some food crops, since the Spanish soldiers and tax collectors were not liked by any of the resident Indians-so a nice buffer as long as the Indians were not encroached upon...

If they remained friendly and traded with those same Indians, everything was apparently cool until Santa Ana came along-when that happened they got together with the Anglos who came from the southern US, declared independence, armed up and the rest is history-nobody did any wrong to Mexico-they were ruled by a greedy dictator-just the kind of government my ancestors left the Spanish Pyrenees and got on a ship to the new world to get away from-so hell no they weren’t going to kiss Santa Anas’ ass...

This guy Burrough is obviously neither an Anglo nor a Hispanic Tejano/native-out here, we still say “you’re not from around here, are you?” to obvious outsiders like him-and it is not a friendly question...

I said something similar in a post-using my own family history as an example of Basques and others leaving Spain to get away from heavy handed rulers and liking where they were-then having Santa Ana come along and try to “rule” people who had already been rebels for a good long time...

Then why did all the Hispanics living here fight for Texas? They were tired of the Mexican government and wanted freedom from it.
