The Post ran an expansive report on Thursday, titled "The racist legacy many birds carry," focused on the "birding community," which apparently is having a difficult debate "about the names of species connected to enslavers, supremacists and grave robbers."
"Corina Newsome is a Black ornithologist, as rare as some of the birds she studies," Post environmental justice reporter Darryl Fears began his piece, noting she was hired to "break down barriers" at the Georgia Audubon nature preserve.

I knew a crow that was racist once.
His name was Jim.
Too many dumbed down people and/or those who feel guilty about their luck and what they’ve earned in life. Maybe they think this gives their life meaning.
“Breaking down barriers” = token, sunshine. That is what you are.
Chicken little comes to mind.
I’ve noticed at least 3 instances here of some blackbirds harassing a squirrel; chased him on the ground & also went after one in a tree. They (the city)seems to want to protect the blackbirds here. If it were up to me I’d put a year-around open season on the filthy things. The other birds(mostly) are OK here.
I have a 15 yr old AFRICAN Grey. Is that raysis? Only racist thing she ever says is ‘yo mama’.
She’s a darling of Georgia local media ...bachelors in bird biology and they treat her like Jonas Salk....cause she’s colored ....partially at least....she wants biology nomenclature purged of bad whiteness...which is everyone pre 1970 per her...Darwin won’t do neither Audubon
kinda wonder why the term “murder of crows” was created...
Oh I was just responding to that WaPo article; here though it’s starlings, nasty birds that go after sparrows and other smaller birds, eat their eggs.
black activists hate hearing the truth,.......So,do their white dem masters....
Maybe Cialis Newsome here should just STFU...
Quick, call PETA, this human is focibly detaining a feathered denizen. How close to slavery is that?
His skin is kinda light—suspect there is some of that evil white blood in there....
I am so sick of this racist crap.
Of course birds are racist. They are tribal just like any other species. I once raised 2 dozen mallard ducklings. A neighbor boy along the lakeshore came, and told me had gotten 2 white ducklings at Easter time and one had died. Would it be all right to put his lonely little duckling in with my flock I allowed it. It took about three weeks before the mallards allowed the white duckling to actually swim with the flock. At first, they would just scoot ahead of him whenever he would get close to them. It was comical to behold.
Eventually they decided he was a conservative like they were and let him become one of them.
I think the birds need some kind of tweetment before they get a racist canarial disease which could lead to chirpees!
I knew an even more racist bird than Mr. Crow. His name was Jim Eagle.
