Daily Mail Published Nude Photos of Katie Hill. Now She Has to Pay Them $100k
LA Mag ^ | 06 02 2021 | Ian Spiegelman

Former SoCal Congresswoman Katie Hill has been dealt another blow in her lawsuit against her ex-husband and two media companies for publishing nude photos of her without her consent. On Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco ordered Hill to pay British tabloid the Daily Mail $103,625 in attorneys’ fees and $1,120 in costs, the Daily News reports.

This follows Orzoco’s April ruling to dismiss the Mail as a defendant in the case, in which Hill sued the paper along with ex-husband Kenny Heslep and conservative media outlet RedState, arguing that publishing the compromising photos—allegedly provided by Heslep—constituted “revenge porn,” which is illegal in 46 states, including California, plus Washington, D.C. Hill made the decision to resign her District 25 seat in October 2019, after the the photos were published, sparking an ethics probe into sexual impropriety.

At the time, Orzoco declared that Hill’s nude image could be published against her will because they were “a matter of public issue or public interest” which “spoke to [Hill’s] character and qualifications for her position.”

During that hearing, Hill’s lawyer, Carrie A. Goldberg, argued that the fees could bankrupt Hill, to which Orzoco replied that there was “not a lot I can do about it. Some of our laws have harsh results.”

I don’t want to say she wasn’t a victim in all of this. She was. She was, however, also an abuser herself by using her position as an employee and politician to coerce her staffers into an intimate relationship with her. There can be more than one villain in a situation in real life. Her coercion of staff was the story the news covered, and that was the reason she isn’t a congresswoman today. The Nazi tattoo would have been the story if she were a republican, but she coerced staff into sex, and she wasn’t smart enough to lean into it like other politicians.

Orzoco has similarly rewarded two other former defendants in the suit. Last week she ordered Hill to pay just under $84,000 in legal fees to RedState editor Jennifer Van Laar, who asked for $120,340 after being let off on First Amendment grounds in April. Orzoco also granted radio host Joseph Messina nearly $30,000 after Hill sued him for publicizing the photos and for failing to notify authorities when he received them.

And Ms. Hill has a LawPay funding site if you want to make a public donation ...

Y'all hold on while I ask my wife.

I came onto this thread thinking she was being wronged, but
it soon became obvious she had some real issues that cost
her dearly.

Well, choices were made...

This response is the most valid of all posts so far. Yes, she is not a woman of Virtue. Yes, she is not a hottie. That said, publishing nude pics of her without her knowledge or consent should be punishable under law. The fact that a judge doesn’t get this is simply a further indication of just how broken our legal system truly is. Making her pay for suing for unauthorized publishing of nude photos and legal fees backs up the fact our legal system is corrupt as hell and not a legal system at all. It is a political retribution system whereby the “morals” and political beliefs of the judges dictate their rulings and NOT Law.
My opnion is not in support of this woman. It is a statement of the lawless, corrupt condition of too many people in our “legal system”. A corrupt state of affairs that does not bode well for us as a society or a country.

Um...OK, who is Katie Hill? I have no idea. But I’m thinking that with the glut of porn available on the internet she must be spectacular. Otherwise, who would care what she looked like. Is she worried she is not going to get clicks or likes?

She and hubby were reportedly advertising swinger parties on reddit, where not surprisingly many images were available at the time.
Then it came out who she was and spez the spaz who runs reddit kinda scrubbed things it looks like.
Kinda hard for it to be revenge porn when you yourself were spreading it around on your own.
What a doof.

Read post 16, and then reconsider what you wrote.
BTW - what is Bibicly? Is it about Benjamin Netanyahu? Or some odd typo?

But none of that background information was in the story. It doesn’t provide any information about the circumstances behind the lawsuit.
