Senator Mitt Romney conceded that former President Donald Trump's "hold" over the GOP is "unlikely to be swayed" despite an ongoing grand jury investigation in New York that could lead to criminal charges against the former commander in chief.
Prosecutors in New York have convened a grand jury as part of a criminal investigation into Trump and his business practices, The Washington Post first reported this week. Although Trump and his business—the Trump Organization—have been under investigation for some time, legal experts have said the convening of a grand jury demonstrates the seriousness of the charges being considered. But Romney and other Republicans are skeptical that the investigation or any possible charges will have much influence on GOP voters.

What fools like Romney, Ryan, and Cheney don’t understand is it’s the policies that Trump supports combined with his personality that makes people loyal to Trump which was sealed when he actually did the unthinkable and acted on his policies instead of paying lip service to them...

There's a premise that Republican voters were hypnotized by Trump's showmanship and charisma and essentially brainwashed. In fact, Trump's popularity took off because he was the first GOP politician in a generation or more who said EXACTLY what most rank-in-file GOP voters had been thinking for years. They enthusiastically supported Trump while they held their noses to pull the lever for Romney and McCain...and Romney still doesn't get it.

This grand jury is another witch hunt. Just like all the other grand juries that they convened for Russia and other nonsense.
What happened is this. Most of us recognize that Trump loved America and was for it rather than against it. And he resisted bowing the knee to the various pressure groups that push corruption and absurdities. We saw how this enraged the corruption machine...and we saw Trump take the abuse and hatred and wrath of that machine on our behalf.
Did he take the abuse gracefully? No. Does sun shine come out of his backside? No. Is everything he thinks always completely right? No.
But he wasn't corrupt. And the elite arrogant corrupt swamp came after him with everything you had with hatred in their eyes. Lying and slandering us all and encouraging persecution of anybody who supported him.
So no, its not about Trump having a "hold on us". Its about the lying slandering Left and its few corrupt arrogant allies in the Republican establishment that enrage us.
Persecuting Trump even more, is not going to cause that disgust and well earned contempt to go away.

Donald Trump told you exactly how he thought and his base agrees.
On the other hand, Romney ran for President as a conservative. NO real conservative would choose Clinton or Biden over Trump.
