ATLANTA — Atlanta City Council member Antonio Brown said he was on hold with 911 for five full minutes after children stole his car Wednesday.
Brown is one of four candidates in the Atlanta mayor’s race this year, in which crime has become a driving issue.
The councilman told Channel 2′s Tom Regan that he was meeting up with people to discuss plans to build affordable housing in the area. Moments after he stepped out of his car, a group of kids jumped in and took it.
“These kids were in my opinion somewhere between 7- and 11-years-old. So you don’t immediately think, ‘Oh, these kids are going to steal my car,’” Brown said.

He said the kids who stole his car acted out of hopelessness and desperation.
“This is a generational poverty issue. These kids, it’s 12:30 in the afternoon. Why aren’t they in school? Why aren’t we enforcing systems to ensure that if they are not in school, they’re in recreational centers?” Brown said.
The councilman said he doesn’t intend to file criminal charges against the young people who stole his car, which has not yet been found.
Why aren’t they in school? School in many places is out for the summer. But if it were in season? Atlanta is going to send truant officers after kids who aren’t in school—if a disproportionate number of the ‘right kids’ are truant, that would be racist.
But more alarmingly, he seems to think that attendance at ‘recreational centers’ should be mandatory? There have been political systems as recently as the 20th century where membership in youth groups was required.
And of course, he doesn’t intend to press charges against the ‘kids’ who stole his car and dragged a guy who works for him down the street. After all punishing criminal behavior is such an old-fashioned white kind of idea.

May be true, but for the 7-11 age group:
"Hopelessness" = ineffective family structure.
"Desperation" = failure of educational system.

Children?
In Nnew high-end cars, you just need to be within a few feed of the vehicle. You no longer have keys, but a remote fob that when in close proximity to the car will allow you to push the “start” button on the dash. Because there’s no longer an ignition.
Dumb dumb should’ve locked his car as soon as he got out. I always do, but I drive a ‘99, so I still have an ignition.
If he can’t do that simple task, how could anyone vote him in for Mayor?
