Mount Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo started erupting at around 17:15 UTC on May 22, 2021, producing high lava fountains and lava flows that forced nearby residents to evacuate in panic.
According to local media reports, many residents of the nearby city of Goma (population 670 000) grabbed their belongings and evacuated toward neighboring Rwanda.
Red glow filled the sky above the city, sending panicked residents fleeing, Reuters reported.
Volcanologist Dario Tedesco said Goma does not appear to be at risk because lava is flowing east in the direction of the Rwandan border.
According to Reuters, Tedesco earlier said he thought lava might hit Goma, but later he said this was not the case.

One of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Vesuvius has more people around it but the Italians have better escape routes.
Will the environmentally-ill blame climate change ?
It’s things like this that make me appreciate that all we really have to deal with here in the northeast is snow.
The occasional nor’easter is preferable to an erupting volcano.
I would leave in a panic also. Sure, at the moment it poses no threat to the city, but how many times have scientists assured us that everything is just fine and “not likely to happen.” and then it does?
It literally looks hellish.
The valcanoist says the eruption is not a risk ‘cause the lava is flowing towards Rhawanda, which is the direction the people are fleeing...to Rhawanda.

Earth’s magnetic fields are both shifting, and being impacted by significant “solar winds”.
Goma is on the border with Rwanda.
I think wildfires are scarier. I recently drove through some of Oregon’s fire devastation areas.
We had choking smoke for a week and a couple of nights of fire not too far away.
This year may be worse for the areas that got missed last year.
Belgian Congo, not to be confused with the French Congo N/K/A the Republic of the Congo.
Not much difference between burning hot lava and a raging forest fire.
Neither one leaves much behind.
The name Tedesco rang a bell then I remembered.
Tommy Tedesco was a member of The Wrecking Crew and played guitar on countless albums and TV show soundtracks.
DPRC now is overrun by Muslim terror. Slaughter and Genocide have just begun. They are funded by Islam, and cannot be reasoned with. The Christians there must arm themselves and be helped by what’s left of Christian Europe. China will continue to nourish this Jihad until all of Africa flows with blood. They will swoop in, like ersatz hero’s and exterminate this Muslim ascendancy and take control of this vast continent. Then they will make slaves of the Africans and force them to extract every one of their inherited treasures and ship them to Beijing. Islam is irrational and stupid. Isis drives around in Toyota’s shooting guns they cannot make. China is the Apex Predator. It has no intention of being stopped.
How does he fit in with the Dean Martin/Matt Helm movie The Wrecking Crew?
“Not much difference between burning hot lava and a raging forest fire.”
Oregon had 1400 square miles burned in one week. 500,000 people had to evacuate.
You can flee in one direction to get way from a volcano, and you don’t have to go that far. A forest fire will not only surround you but skip ahead of you at the speed of the wind, often very high winds.
Sparks fly ahead of the fire and have jumped miles across the Columbia River.
We were threatened by a fire 20 miles away that could have been to us in 25 minutes.
I have no experience with wildfires.
Thankfully.
Having lost a home in the Campfire, I would agree.
Sorry to hear that. My wife had 2 relatives that lost homes in the Santiam Fire. One of them was a Christmas tree farm that was a 4th generation family farm.
Is this the one that killed hundreds with a CO2 blast?
Is that where the mountain gorillas live?
Yes
