The San Antonio resident has unsubscribed from cable, stopped paying for some of her medications and cut down significantly on her air conditioning. But her roughly $3,000 monthly unemployment payments still don’t stretch far enough...
Critics of Abbott’s move say tens of thousands of desperate Texans shouldn’t have to choose between scrambling to find a job in the next few weeks or living with $1,200 less getting deposited into their bank accounts every month. What in blazes is she doing with all that money? Our house and vehicles are paid off and we don't owe anyone, knock on wood. I'm obviously doing it all wrong. Dang, give me $3000/mo to sit on my butt for a couple years.

My neighbor, 38 years old has been home for over a year getting fat and happy and losing his marbles that its all over in Sept. Fully capable of working tomorrow. Many people are working on the side for cash also.
Let them move back to CA.

As a point of reference, I think the maximum Social Security benefit a citizen can collect is around $3,600 per month. In order to get that much, you would need 10 years at the maximum wage for contributions, AND start collecting at age 70. The 2021 maximum wage for SS contribution is $142,800.
