More of the interview will be presented Tuesday, April 20, on the "CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell," and Wednesday, April 21, on "CBS This Morning."

O'Donnell visited Mr. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush at their Texas ranch, south of Dallas. There, the 74-year-old opened up about his life after leaving office, his thoughts on the country, his painting and his new book, "Out of Many, One: Portraits of America's Immigrants" (Crown).

Why oh why did I vote for him twice and defend him? What a waste.

If not for 9/11, Bush would have been a one term president.

The other choices were Gore and Kerry. What else could we do? I made the same mistake. Not voting was NOT an option.

Shutup, GW. Failure to overturning the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 should have been your second biggest failure. Failure to adequately respond to the Islamic war atack on the United States of America was your biggest failure.

Bush senior’s failures gave us Clinton and Bush junior gave us Obama. Stealing the election gave us Biden.

And by immigration reforms he means open borders. If there’s one positive thing the Bush and Obama administrations accomplished they opened our eyes to the deep state and it’s control of both parties.

I was surprised he won the 2nd time. If it were for Kerry being one of the worst candidates in history he wouldn’t have. Bush’s 2nd term was really terrible too. For every thing he did right, you’d get 5 ‘islam is peace’ style mistakes.

RE: George W. Bush calls not passing immigration reform one of his biggest regrets

He was on track to be a good President when he made the mistake of spending ALL of his political capital on the war to take down Saddam Hussein.

He had a chance to reform social security and even mentioned it in his SOTU address.... never got to it.

He was the one who identified the problem of NINJA loans and the looming mortgage debacle early on. He just gave the speech and did nothing.

WASTED OPPORTUNITY.

Georgie was a democrat trapped in a republican body during his two terms. That’s why he never responded to the democrats criticisms. He agreed with them.

And McCain. Don’t forget that in 2000, the choices were Bush, John McCain and Alan Keyes. Everyone else - none of whom were great options either - dropped out before the first ballots were cast.

In hindsight, we all know that Keyes would have been the best choice...but Keyes was a very strange - if also unbelievably brilliant - guy. Too strange to not have been crushed by Gore.

2000 was a field of bad choices and worse choices.

The SOB reopened the Mexican border 1 day after 9/11.

That was the day I woke up. I was in shock. Why would the idiot do that? What nation did this idiot work for?

In 2004 I wrote in Mickey Mouse, because there was no one else worth being on the ballot.

I think he truly was a Saudi puppet. After 9/11 the only planes flying were to get the Saudi bigwigs back home.

In W’s defense, he was too busy starting unwinnable wars to focus on anything else.

/s, of course. Others might disagree, but IMO George W. Bush was one of the three worst presidents in US history. (I won’t mention the other two as not to hijack this thread.)
