“Rush lived in Rubio’s area. They probably were personally acquainted.”
Yea, that was the best I and others here could come up with. Pretty weak, on Rush’s part, if true.
Cumulus will be putting Dan Bongino in Rush’s slot starting in May — the 24th, I think. I’m glad our 98.7 in Knoxville is Cumulus. I think Dan is one of the few who can match Rush’s enthusiasm and hold people’s attention for three hours a day. Tammy Bruce would be good, too. Her podcast years ago was excellent.
“I remember it mostly like that. Rush was never “Never Trump” but was skeptical of him not seeing the motivations of the other side through an ideological prism and how “making a deal” wasn’t going to work with the other side...and Rush specifically said “Trump is *not* a conservative” for which there was a lot of evidence to suggest as such and he, like me, were very skeptical he did a genuine 180 degree turn in such a short period of time on a host of issues. Until just before running he was still in favor of amnesty, and he had blasted Romney for supposedly being too harsh on immigration and blamed that for his loss in 2012.”
All true. All that existed, for 2016, was Trump’s ‘word’ that he was conservative, would appoint conservative judges (but I don’t think there is anyone now like Thomas/Scalia), and that Trump certainly played ball with the Democrats in NYC, something he said was needed, if you wanted to get building permits approved there (no doubt the case). So, saying Trump was a Reagan conservative, but without any record as such, would have been non-credible.
But one thing that Rush did fully understand in 2016 was that the election was either going to be won by Trump (after Trump locked up the nomination) or Skunk Cabbage (and that if she won, all the crap going on now would have going on 4 years ago, instead, and we’d likely have been silenced by now) - something that was, apparently, beyond the grasp of Ted Cruz and Mark Levin, and many, many, others who also ‘claimed’ to be conservatives.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If I remember correctly [haven't listened to him in years] he's (Elmer Gantry) already doing a three hour show.
Bongino still is. It depends on the network.
Rush was on several. I believe bongino is on westward one
Dan talks about his new show from time to time on his pod cast.
Dan will be doing 3 hours on the radio and one hour on the pod cast daily.
Yes he is, but I’m just saying that he’s the only on the horizon who could do it.
Rush had not been on 77WABC in New York for years. His show was on 710WOR.
True. My local station changed hosts last week. This is going to open the airwaves up for many great hosts to rise to the top and mediocre ones to find new careers.
Agree
Rush was still enamored for the establishment Republicans until Trump proved himself.
Rush, unlike Levine, knew better, for his career, to stay somewhat neutral.
Levine on the other hand was a vile and vicious never-Trumper, even joined the establishment attack machine until Trump proved himself. Then he became a huge defender.
Incidentally, I remember when Rush told his audience that he met with GW Bush (before his first election) and that he was definitely a conservative...That wasn't true then and certainly isn't true now.
WLS Radio (890 AM) is running a local “guest host Ray Stevens” in Rush’s slot until they begin with Dan Bongino’s 3 hour show, whenever it debuts.
“Dan Bongino’s 3 hour show, whenever it debuts.”
The last announcement I saw from Cumulus (I don’t know if WLS is a Cumulus station) is May 24 for Bongino. Maybe it’s been bumped to earlier; I don’t know.
Thank you for the May 24 date. WLS is owned by Cumulus Media, per WLS’s station info page. Ray Stevens is a regular WLS “fill in” for local WLS hosts on vacation. Apparently he once had his own WLS morning show as “Ramblin Ray.” That was before I moved back to the WLS listening area a couple of years ago. 20+ years ago WLS had a morning duo who I could pick up before dawn in Wash DC while driving to work. They were good, but the male half died several years ago from cancer and the female half left the station.
Stevens just said “Dan Bongino will take over as soon as he is ready.” I guess its up to us to wait for him to appear before or on May 24th.
I assumed “your” Ray Stevens isn’t the “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” Ray Stevens. He’s pretty old now.
“Incidentally, I remember when Rush told his audience that he met with GW Bush (before his first election) and that he was definitely a conservative...That wasn’t true then and certainly isn’t true now. “
Damn, you go back aways - Rush didn’t even have a national show then.
She would not date him.
