The man accused of trying to extort $25 million from Rep. Matt Gaetz’s family admitted Monday that he asked the congressman’s dad for cash — but denied that it was a shakedown.
Bob Kent, an ex-Air Force intelligence officer, confirmed to Sirius Radio host Michael Smerconish that he approached the Florida Republican’s dad, Don Gaetz, for money last month.
The funds, Kent said, were to pay for an effort to free Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who disappeared in Iran in 2007, and is believed to be dead. Kent claimed he has video evidence that Levinson is still alive and is being held hostage.
Kent said he met Don Gaetz, a wealthy former Florida politician, at his office on March 17 — and told him his son was having “legal issues” and might want to “generate good will” by helping with the rescue effort.
“I explained that in no way am I trying to extort him and that if he decides not to help us, he’ll never hear from me again,” Kent told Smerconish.
“Matt Gaetz is in need of good publicity, and I’m in need of $25 million to save Robert Levinson,” he added.
Kent insisted that his intention wasn’t to blackmail the Gaetz family.
“I never threatened the man — matter of fact, it was the opposite: I told him if he decides not to help us he’ll never hear from me again,” Kent said, adding, “I can’t help how it sounds.”

A lobbyist once told me in Washington the rewards are money, sex and power. As soon as they arrive in DC temptations are immediately put before them to see if they can be trapped. Many fall quickly to temptation, and once they are on the hook they tow the line. While some refuse the temptations, they are vulnerable due to family issues, financial pressures, or youthful indiscretions which once uncovered by the power structure can be used to force compliance. The few who show maverick tendencies, actually have squeaky clean lives, and aren’t easily tempted receive a private meeting with a senior aid to the leadership or party official where the rules are explained. Play ball or your life will be hell, you will be primaries, and we will make sure you can’t fund your re-election campaign.
Only the independently wealthy, with a skeleton free closet and the resources to self fund campaigns can act independently. As my lobbyist friend said, “When you choose to play in the sewer everyday, even the cleanest man will get dirty.” His conclusion after two decades working with the politicians in DC - anyone who chooses to run for re-election is dirty. Someone who is ethical and wants to retain his/her integrity will be completely disgusted by the corruption and leave. Those who stay, are comfortable and reap the rewards - money, sex, and eventually the chance to wield real power.

Even Trump’s people knew Gaetz is a scumbag. This is why Trump hasn’t said a word in defense of him. He makes good theater but he is not a serious conservative politician. He’s a playboy and anyone on this side of the aisle who thinks he is good for our brand is a fool. The rumors about his scumbagging were around long before this-and of that is what you want representing your conservatism-no wonder we are losing. We’ve got t be better than Democrats and demand it. When our candidates say they will not raise the deficit but lower it they can’t raise it the same as Obama in half the time and be defended like the Japs defended Tarawa.

Sounds like she was 17 and he’s claiming they didn’t have sex until her 18th birthday. Also, that he had s lot of young girlfriends and spent a lot of money on them.
My best guess is he didn’t do anything illegal, or it’s hard to prove, which is exactly why the story was leaked to the communist press.
