Little Rock, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday vetoed legislation that would have made his state the first to ban gender confirming treatments or surgery for transgender youth, though lawmakers could enact the restriction over his objections.
The Republican governor rejected legislation that would have prohibited doctors from providing gender confirming hormone treatment, puberty blockers or surgery to anyone under 18 years old, or from referring them to other providers for the treatment.
“If (the bill) becomes law, then we are creating new standards of legislative interference with physicians and parents as they deal with some of the most complex and sensitive matters involving young people," Hutchinson said at a news conference.
The Republican Legislature could still enact the measure, since it only takes a simple majority of the House and Senate to override a governor's veto in Arkansas. Hutchinson said he believed an override was likely.
Hutchinson's veto follows pleas from pediatricians, social workers and the parents of transgender youth who said the measure would harm a community already at risk for depression and suicide. Hutchinson said he met with doctors and transgender people as he considered whether to sign the measure.

How compassionate are the Left who fight for the right of mentally ill people to mutilate themselves despite the dreadful effect of these surgeries.
The study comes from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which reveals that half of those who say they are transgendered attempt suicide at a rate of near or at 50 percent:
Female to male adolescents reported the highest rate of attempted suicide (50.8%), followed by adolescents who identified as not exclusively male or female (41.8%), male to female adolescents (29.9%), questioning adolescents (27.9%).
Compared to the suicide rate of teens who do not identify as transgendered, this is horrifically high, though any suicide rate is bad. The suicide rate among young women is alarming, even without the trouble of gender dysphoria.
Female adolescents (17.6%), and male adolescents (9.8%). Identifying as nonheterosexual exacerbated the risk for all adolescents except for those who did not exclusively identify as male or female (ie, nonbinary).
This is a shocking find, though not at all surprising. Transgendered individuals tend to suffer a 41 percent suicide rate, and they are more 19 times more likely to commit suicide if they go through with gender reassignment surgery.

Even if you believe there is such a thing as transgender (which I do not, just sexual dysmorphic disorder which is a sub set of body dysmorphic disorder) and it should be diagnosed and treated with hormones and surgery that is not what is happening here.
What is going on out is really really sick and it in no way resembles actual medical treatment.
Okay, I read that several times to decide what it probably said. The problem is “gender confirming.” What does that mean? I gather the legislation would have prevented anyone under 18 from doing anything stupidly permanent to their body regarding changing their sex. But it sure was hard to figure that out. Our language has been corrupted to the point of being useless.
As for the governor...let’s hope there is another side to this story that isn’t being covered. (Somehow I doubt it. I’ve noticed a trend where Democrats don’t advertise they are Democrats. You really have to do some searching to discover it. Another trend is they run as Republicans.)
It must be intense and coming from heavy hitters because there is very little grass roots support.
What’s at issue are puberty blocking hormones, not surgery. Once you go through puberty the dysphoria is much harder to deal with. If you decide to stop the blockers at any point, puberty is going to happen.
I hear that becoming a Transpublican involves having one’s spine, brain, and testicles removed.
Another Repuke who should be thrown out. There is never medical justification for changing someone’s God-given sex. Mental health treatment is available for those who need it.
At this age, no one really knows what they want for a lifetime.

In other words, this RINO is simply virtue signaling.
It means that if a child or adult comes into a doctors office and says they are transgender the doctor immediately agrees and starts pumping them full of hormones that will cause permanent physical and mental problems.
There is no attempt to even check to see if the child is suffering from SDD just immediate assumption that the child has diagnosed what ever problem they have with 100% accuracy.
