At the hospital this past Wednesday I filled out the tablet categories and had to remember (from here) that the new category is “not listed” or “other not listed” to say if you are white and born in the USA and a citizen. I really remembered the FR post last year or I might have stupidly asked the staff woman what to do. Kidding.
At the start of all this decades ago we all wanted to have the phone recordings for banks, car dealers, various offices and so on in English only, followed by “or go somewhere to learn English.”
If we lived in China, Iran or Syria, do they give a phone “Press 2 for English” and give Americans Easter and Christmas off at work and school?

I actually was surprised to hear from a student assistant at the Indian Subcontinent is part of “Asia.”
She said Indians don’t like the way bookstores (this dates it) put in 75% Chinese related Buddhism topics with a few Indian books “because Chinese are all over the place in the US.” There is rivalry over the classifications. This might be exploited by the Right but hasn’t been.

And when we speak of “Asians”, we tend not to make distinctions among Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, etc.
Ditto with “Hispanic” or “Latino” peoples in America. There are those of Mexican ancestry, but there are also big numbers of Puerto Ricans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, etc.
From what I hear, many individual members of these groups make distinctions such as I’ve noted, but the elitist liberal types in America who love to make distinctions, ignore distinctions made by the people themselves.

Almost every Mexican that you see on TV is of Spanish descent. That includes Mexican TV. It’s like native central and south Americans don’t even exist.
