My wife’s Hong Kong family would argue India people are not Asian.
India is part of Persia empire. People from Pakistan and India are technically Persian. Harris is Persia.
Asians are about 5% of the population. Americans of German ancestry are about 13% and those of Irish ancestry are about 10%. Are they making sure those groups are represented in the cabinet? Or does Biden having Irish ancestry mean that Irish-Americans don't need anyone else to represent them?
The obsession with race is absurd. In any case most of the work of the departments is done lower down, by the permanent staff...but for the last 50 years they have probably been selected and promoted largely for identity rather than competence.
Tucker Carlson was in El Salvador recently and had an interview with the President of El Salvador. The man could have just gotten off a plane from Madrid.
The Persian Empire extended as far as the Indus Valley (mostly in present-day Pakistan). Harris’ mother is from South India, an area never under Persian rule, and her mother’s native language is a Dravidian language (not one of the Indo-European languages brought in by the “Aryan” invaders).

“Asian” is an overly broad term. A Pakistani has nothing in common with a Vietnamese. A Turk with a Japanese. A Russian with a Chinese.
Assigning qualities to people based on the land mass on which their ancestors were born is colossal stupidity.
They would probably have more Asians in the Administration but in keeping with getting appointees that are less intelligent than Slow Joe, none could be found.

Actually you’re right. The “Middle East” is actually southwest Asia.
The Middle East also includes some countries in Africa—at least Egypt, Libya, and the Sudan, perhaps also the Maghreb (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco). There is disagreement about exactly what the limits of the Middle East are...and the area used to be called the Near East (ancient historians still use the term the Ancient Near East for the same region). Maybe it was in the 1950s that the extreme western part of Asia came to be known as the Middle East—before that “the Middle East” was further east.
The Brits used to use the term “wog” for East Asians (”worthy oriental gentleman,” ostensibly). The extreme view was “Wogs start at Calais.” But maybe the term is taboo nowadays.
