Rabobank? Don’t you mean Mechanics bank?
We should turn our farms over to the gov’t /s
Issue trillions more dollars and everything will be ok.
+$7.50 gas and diesel will be another positive step towards correcting inflation along with new mileage taxes.
The future is bright as the sun, or is that a tactical nuke headed our way?
You're not kidding. I retired last year and finally had a chance to get into woodworking, but my wife and I get sticker shock just walking through the lumber section of Home Depot-- and a lot of the wood is crappy. They should be ashamed to be selling it!
Get those raised bed and container gardens going. We ate from our small 4x8 raised bed and a bunch of containers all summer last year. I am planting now. Kale is already up. Collards, mustard greens and onions going in today. One more week and the bush beans and cucumbers go in. Tomatoes, potatoes, spinach and eggplant in buckets. The yields are great!
We need to stabilize, perhaps even shrink, the money supply.
Back to the gold standard?
Abolish the Fed!
Our building was finished just before the surge. I built a lot of shelving with $7 OSB and $4 2x10’s. Now the osb is $35. I’m going for other materials. I found some really nice 5mm paneling that stains beautifully and has a thin MDF center and is strong enough for my purposes for $14.99.
Holy crap! I just checked it out at lowes. It’s now $25.50!

Roman_War_Criminal: "Agricultural commodity prices have surged almost 50% since mid-2020, causing concerns over food price inflation around the world
and sometimes resulting in increased export taxes and quotas by producers at a time when importing countries want to import more."
"We can identify four major factors driving the surge across agri commodities that will remain active in 2021:
#1) US dollar weakness: Rabobank forecasts the US dollar to remain soft through 2021
(US dollar index -7% lower since mid-2020), but no further weakness is expected.
#2) Weather: La Niña could extend into the US spring planting season.
#3) Global demand: Good global demand (either for animal feed or storage) to continue through 2021.
#4) Speculation: Speculative appetite is likely to support prices through 2021."
Another FReeper suggested #5) Deposition of President Trump
One can't help but agree, since Trump is renowned for his negotiating methods and skills.
Coincidentally, there are large massive areas of the US and Russia that are experiencing seasonably lower snow cover
and resulting water that may affect grain and feed productivity.
More information in the OP.
Destructive weather, tornadoes, floods, along with the after-effects of the covid-19 pandemic,
and resulting lock-downs have affected the lumber industry.
This has resulted in an unseasonably high demand and low supply of lumber and wood materials.
I am not sure, but I believe that Canada was thinking about imposing a surcharge on wood products when the PM was miffed at the USA.
“ A 2x4 was around $3 and now it’s over $7. But OSB sheets have gone from $7 to $35”
I just got a fantastic price for a timber sale. The demand is through the roof, and mills are desperate for timber. Supply and demand in action.
I’m only buying minimal materials to get the walls up in the “office” section of the shop building. Then it’s all gypsum board, which is still pretty cheap.
I’ve read some articles that talk of a housing boom. That is coming to an end and we’ll see prices crash, other than what is due to simple inflation.
I have about 25 acres of trees. Perhaps I should think about selling some of it.
Thank God for the dollar store. I buy many groceries there and so far they haven’t raised prices.
If you have some good saw timber, now is the time. We had a sealed bid auction with about ten bidders. The winning bid was considerably higher than the second place. Some buyers are more desperate that others.
Your lucky our HOA bans gardens.
How do you even start such a thing?
I work with a forester who sets everything up. Easy-peasy.
I just checked this: https://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/econ/timberprices/answers/
Looks like you earn your money...
Sounds like that link was the exactly right place for me to go...
