Convicted spy laments US Jews see themselves as more American than Jewish, suggests he’d counsel Jew working in American security apparatus to spy for Israel even now
Jonathan Pollard, the convicted spy for Israel whose story haunted the American Jewish community’s relations with the US government for decades, is unrepentant.
“The bottom line on this charge of dual loyalty is, I’m sorry, we’re Jews, and if we’re Jews, we will always have dual loyalty,” Pollard said in an interview published Thursday in Israel Hayom, his first extensive remarks since his release from prison in 2015.
Pollard recalled how much of the Jewish leadership did not stand up for him following his 1985 arrest, when he was a civilian analyst for the US Navy who was found to be spying for Israel.

Dr.Oz the TV doctor has dual citizenship with Turkey and US and is Muslim.
Trend of dual citizenship is up.
Very few Jews have it.
Are Catholics supposed to fear being called tools of the Roman Pope working for their faith rather than America as when John F. Kennedy ran?
Sick stuff.
A few dual citizenship people:
Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, Emily Blunt,Jim Carrey, Sandra Bullock, Ludacris, Arnold Schwartzenegger,Elon Musk, Kim Catrall,Nicole Kidman, Olivia Wilde....many more.
No relation and I’m not Jewish
Meh.
Pollard was a spy for Australia (yes) and China for money.
Meh.
Pollard was a spy for Australia (yes) and China for money.
Oh, and Pakistan.

Then if you have ANY loyalty for the U.S. you would not take a U.S. government job requiring a security clearance. By doing so and then engaging in spying for a foreign county it is a kick in the teeth to our country.
This guy should never have been let out of the can.
The point is once you spy and give away information, even to an “ally”, the fact is you have lost control of that information, and it could wind up getting in the hands of anyone at that point.
As I understand it, the US does not recognize dual citizenship. Which means you may have dual citizenship with another country, that’s the other’s country’s business not the US. US citizenship here is what matters the other citisenship is legally to the US almost a club membership. I have been told that primarily it means you can travel on another passport. I am not sure if there’s a legal liability if you use another passport to travel to a US travel banned country. There maybe be a theoretical liability, but like many things in law & diplomancy if you maintain the “proper forms of the law (didn’t use a US passport)” it would likely be ignored.
I still object to this traitor not being executed and I object to his being released. He should be in jail or in the ground.
Being Catholic is not dual citizenship. I don’t have Vatican or Catholic citizenship, nor passport.
Baptists spy for Liberty University? Methodists spy for Cuba?
I used to think just like you did.
In fact, I held a TS Codeword(s) clearance for many years while on active duty. When it came to spies; no mercy.
But then the US government changed...
After the Cold War we were foisted into fighting Islamic Fundamentalism and tyrants like Saddam Hussein.
But Hussein was actually keeping the Fundies under control. After he was gone, all Hell broke out.
Was it wise to defeat him?
Then came the government’s switch from external threats to domestic. It didn’t happen overnight, but Clinton, Obama and yes, even Dubya Bush gave them power and orders to do so.
Then came Assuage and Snowden. Were they spies?
I see them now as whistle blowers on the most corrupt and tyrannical government agencies in American history. And now the military is looking for Right-wing Insurgents...
The whole apparatus needs to be torn down and rebuilt with far more safeguards.
Anybody who spies against the United States should be shot and their families charged for the bullets. Why should the US taxpayers pay for their extended sojourn in prison.
Kind of odd to see this @sshole vindicate the Europeans in their attitude about Jews in the years leading up to the Third Reich.
Given how many American Jews seem to resent the existence of Israel at all, I doubt he’ll find many takers for his spy thing.
Exactly, some think all Jews must love Israel. That is not the case at all. It goes back to the days in Europe of the Socialist Bundists vs. the Zionists. The Bundists abhorred the idea of a Jewish State, because they felt that it went against the goal of a global Socialist Revolution by confining Jews into one country. Plus they mostly were atheists, so they had little connection to the Jewish religion.
Until the horrific Warren court ruled in 1967’s Afroyim v. Rusk case, dual citizenship was not allowed. It overturned a prior precedent, Perez V. Brownwell, that stated US citizenship could be revoked if an American voted in a foreign election. If Perez v. Brown well could be disregarded, then so should the Warren court’s ruling.
No dual allegiances for any American. We should be citizens of one nation, not of the world.
I was born and raised (mostly) in Israel with American parents who did not acquire Israeli citizenship until I was well pay 18.
Served in the Israeli military, and, in fact, still serve in the reserves.
I hold US citizenship and Israeli citizenship, and have a very high security clearance because I work for a defense contractor. Now the secrets I have (related to fighter jets, actually secret stuff) generally originated in Israel as that is where the company is that makes the secret stuff.
But there are complications. Like I couldn’t read the English version of the manual I translated to English from Hebrew despite being the author. So I used the Hebrew version to teach a class where the students used an English version. Still mad about that one.
Also very complex tax returns.
Exactly how I see it.
Yes. Once information is in the hands of a third party, it is fungible and may be used for information barter with unfriendly entities, with no thought to the bearing of the information on the country where it originated.
That SOB should have been executed.
Concur. Lest we fall into that war the book title comes from.
