Attorney General Nominee Merrick Garland Won’t Promise to Protect the Durham Investigation

Merrick Garland, Joe Biden’s nominee for attorney general of the United States, would not promise to protect special counsel John Durham’s investigation into the Obama-Biden administration’s spying on the Trump campaign.

Garland made the stunning statement in response to questions from Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).

“If confirmed, will you commit to providing special counsel Durham with the staff, resources, funds, and time needed to thoroughly complete the investigation?” asked Grassley.

“So, senator, I don’t have any information about the investigation as I sit here today, and another one of the very first things I’m going to have to do is speak with Mr. Durham and figure out how his investigation is going,” replied Garland. “I understand that he has been permitted to remain in his position, and sitting here today, I have no reason to think that that was not the correct decision.”

Grassley followed up by asking if Durham would only be removed “for cause.”

“I would have to have an opportunity to talk with him,” Garland responded. “I have not had that opportunity. As I said, I don’t have any reason, from what I know now, which is really very little, to make any determination on that ground. But I don’t have any reason to think that he should not remain in place.”

Garland also refused to commit to releasing the report to the public.

“I am a great believer in transparency. I would, though, have to talk with Mr. Durham and understand the nature of what he’s been doing and the nature of the report. But I am very much committed to transparency and to explaining Justice Department decision-making.”

Grassley noted that during his own confirmation hearing, Attorney General William Barr had promised to protect then-special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion.

From what I have seen, that was the worst job interview ever.

Nobody in the senate should vote for him.

Grassley said “That answer surprised me. It’s not an answer this Committee would have accepted from Barr on Mueller. I think your predisposition, frankly, should be to protect and support the ongoing investigation as much as possible.”

Then I believe he went on to praise him?? Man, this GOP party is really really bad.

Who cares? Durham was a red herring so we’d shut up.

Totally agree, he keeps thinking he's interviewing for SCOTUS - lame.

Are you sure he isn't? I'd be willing to be that if he gets approved here he will be Harris's first nominee to SCOTUS.

Sorry but you have to recognize just how organized and ready the Left was to implement their agenda. The demented ,corrupt figurehead Biden does and says what he is told. Policies and people are put forth in an organized, effective manner as they seize power and implement their agenda. As noble and good were the intentions of Trump, he never was able to fully seize power, destroy or drain the swamp, or implement all he wanted to do. He was surrounded by incompetent people and resistors masquarading as allies. So far the Republican Party has been as effective resisting the Left as were South Vietnamese villiage militia units fighting the North Vietnamese army.

Joe Biden will tell you that prosecutor was corrupt just as he’s gotten away with calling the Ukranian prosecutor “corrupt” without one shred of evidence. It’s Joe Biden’s conspiracy theory and he’s never been challenged on it.

This guy should not receive one Republican vote, but you know that the GOP losers will be falling all over themselves to give the appearance of "unity". The Democrats must wake up smiling everyday knowing that they face zero opposition from these losers.

It is interesting to hear this nominee to profess to know nothing about anything. Is Garland the best the Dems have to offer or has he been recruited as a member of the corrupt FBI and DOJ?????????????

It’d be hilarious if Garland got screwed again. But unless he says he’s going after the Given Crime Family, that’s unlikely.

“I like you, I respect you, and I think you are a good pick for this job,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, early in a Monday hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee. Grassley is the top Republican on the committee.

“I think you’re a very good pick for this job,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who previously served as Judiciary chairman.

These were the very same criteria Democrats used, along with Republicans, to qualify Trump’s AG nominees vis a vis the Russia Russia investigation.

And the Senate as a body seems OK with the brush off.
