Republican Senate candidate Mark Walker of North Carolina is pushing back against a prediction by Sen. Lindsey Graham of neighboring South Carolina.
Graham, a major ally and supporter of former President Donald Trump, says the vote by retiring GOP Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina on Saturday to convict Trump in his impeachment trial will make the former president’s daughter-in-law – Lara Trump – a shoe-in to win the 2022 Republican nomination to succeed Burr.
"The biggest winner of this whole impeachment trial I think is Lara Trump," Graham forecast on "Fox News Sunday." "My dear friend Richard Burr, who I like and I’ve been friends to a long time, just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs, and I certainly would be behind her because I think she represents the future of the Republican Party."

Is Lara Trump a registered Republican? And when did she first register as a Republican? Her husband told Anderson Cooper he couldn’t vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 primary, because he was still registered as a Democrat.

The reason Democrats always vote in unison is they run their party like the mafia. If one of them steps out of line they end up dead or in jail.

At this point it doesn’t matter. She is not a resident of the state of NC. She was born here but she hasn’t invested in her time and energy living here, understanding the citizens who live here and the issues we care about. She is a New Yorker.
We had a carpetbagger Senator, Elizabeth “Liddy” Dole (wife of Senator Bob Dole) who after living out of state for more than 30 years used her mother’s house as her residence in order to meet the state’s qualifications a Senate run. Once elected, Dole spent no time in the state and was rightly defeated for reelection. It was clear all Dole cared about was being a Senator. She was personally invested in the Washington D.C. scene, not the people of North Carolina.
If Lara Trump and her husband move to the state, spend most of their time here, educate their children here, and become heavily involved in the state over the next two years I will consider voting for her. If she buys a trophy house on the coast, flys in occasionally from New York or Florida, and doesn’t demonstrate a commitment to the state (like Liddy Dole), she will not get my vote no matter how despicable the Democrat running.
Utah has its Romney, New York had its Hillary. Both represented themselves and their political objectives, not the people of the state. I’m over voting for party labels, legacies, and carpetbaggers.
There’s no one-size-fits-all category for Senate Republicans. They’re all over the map. And without being on the inside, it’s difficult to tell what’s motivating their rhetoric.
It’s been my opinion since joining FR that Graham has the greatest persuasive potential of all Senators. But he often does that WTF thing — less so since McCain left the scene.
Those that don't will suffer a bloody campaign regardless of whether they win or lose.
Graham is setting up a future headline where “Lara Trump’s most vocal supporter in the region retracted his endorsement after charges of [racism].”
