MADISON - Two days after members of the U.S. Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Wisconsin's senior senator is questioning whether an armed insurrection even occurred.
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson toured the state's airwaves on Monday making the claim, despite video footage and photos of the attack showing participants erecting gallows on the Capitol grounds, deploying pepper spray strong enough to injure bears, carrying zip ties, hurling a fire extinguisher, using baseball bats to smash windows, and throwing flags like spears at police officers.
"This didn’t seem like an armed insurrection to me," the Oshkosh Republican said in an interview on WISN-AM with conservative talk radio show host Jay Weber, after condemning the events at the U.S. Capitol that day.
"I mean 'armed,' when you hear 'armed,' don’t you think of firearms? Here’s the questions I would have liked to ask. How many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired? I’m only aware of one and I’ll defend that law enforcement officer for taking that shot. It was a tragedy, OK? But I think there was only one."
While it's unknown how many firearms were brought inside the Capitol during the attack, police recovered a dozen guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from seven people who were arrested over their involvement in the Jan. 6 riot that left five people dead, according to NBC News reporting in January.
Rioters also used a stun gun to incapacitate at least one police officer, causing him to suffer a heart attack.

“Rioters also used a stun gun to incapacitate at least one police officer, causing him to suffer a heart attack.”
I assume this is a lie.
If it was a planned, armed insurrection many of the unrepresentatives would no longer be with us. This was a peaceful protest deliberately infiltrated by leftest agitators. They were the ones who entered the capitol first. Those on our side who followed were caught up in the moment and made a poor decision to follow.
Yes, the toy "gallows" that was 5 feet high.
deploying pepper spray strong enough to injure bears
And destroy the armor belts of World World II battleships.
Hyperbole much? Jeebus.
The Capitol riot.
A few windows got broken. And some clown put his feet up on Nancy Pelosi‘s desk
Oh yes. An unarmed white woman was also murdered in cold blood by a Capitol police officer
I never saw a bat in any of the clips .... not saying they weren't there, just that I never saw one.
I DID see a guy throw a fire extinguisher that NO ONE is questioning ... "Where did THAT come from?"
And I saw poles that were probably harvested from the barricades out front ... typical hoodlum street fighting... not an armed insurrection
If it always caused a heart attack, the police would be in
trouble for using them.
If it did cause one here, it’s simply incidental.
“Rioters also used a stun gun to incapacitate at least one police officer, causing him to die in a car accident five weeks later.” — makes about as much sense as that idiocy.
They didn’t even leave any graffiti.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is a leftist rag owned by Gannett part of USA Today.
Was he talking about Ashley being shot by the guard? And he supported that?
You assume correctly. It is a lie.
The New York Times was going with the lie that Sicknick was actually hit with a fire extinguisher which caused him to die the next day. They have since walked back that lie.
The visitors didn’t come in with two arms each?
It’s absolutely astounding that there are STILL so many citizens who believe what the brain-dead media feeds them.
antifa brings working guillotines to their shenanigans.
The January 6 protest was mostly peaceful.
Yep. Who ever wrote that is basing their knowledge on television or movies. “Stun guns” cause pain, they do not incapacitate. The electricity is looking to complete the circuit so it only flows an inch or two, but that can be very painful. A taser does the same thing over a wider course in the body, but at an extremely low amperage. Tasers also interfere with the brains ability to communicate with muscles, but the duration is short, and it doesn’t go searching through the body looking for organs to attack.
Where else do so-called "insurgents" observe velvet rope lines?
This whole event, while stupid and regrettable at best, has been totally overblown and oversold by the Left.
