New Poll Shows GOP Could Lose Tons of Supporters...to a New Trump-Led Party

Voting for Donald Trump’s impeachment and keeping the people in leadership positions who supported this recent impeachment push is going to drive the GOP base mad. It already has. I will not be shocked if Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) faces a serious primary challenge in 2022. While there were reports that at least half of the House GOP caucus wanted her gone, she remained, handily winning a secret ballot vote. It’s a classic case of all talk, no action. Saying one thing but doing another. I know, that’s a hallmark characteristic of American politics, but people have had it. It’s given in to the populist swell within the GOP. And with Trump gone, there is a fear that a new party could emerge. Now, Trump’s political team has disavowed the formation of this “patriot party.” But that’s not the same thing as Trump himself saying he has done so. GOP leadership should be watching. Their base is getting restless with these betrayals, one of the biggest being the failed repeal of Obamacare. For ten years, that was a promise — and nothing happened. No wonder why a new poll shows that a whopping 64 percent of Republicans would jump ship for a Trump-led political party. Oh, and the former president would get a sizeable chunk of Democrats too (via The Hill):

A majority of Republican voters said if former President Trump were to start a new political party they would likely join, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.

Sixty-four percent of registered Republican voters in the Jan. 28-29 survey said they'd join a new political party led by the former president, including 32 percent who said they would very likely join.

By contrast, 36 percent of Republican respondents said they are either very or somewhat unlikely to join.

What Trump is doing with the Republican Party, is like going
to NBC and telling them he’ll help them stay afloat, because
the nation needs them.

After 38 years as a dem, PDJT motivated me to switch to GOP in 2016 to support him in two closed MD primaries and of course two general elections.

I will align with whatever party he represents and be fully prepared to whatever I can to support his comeback in 2024.

BTW, I finally ordered a Trumpy Bear last night and cannot wait to snuggle with my new purchase.

Plus, I will either fly the enclosed American flag at half staff or perhaps upside down—as others have suggested.

The fact that people are talking as if there will be elections in the future is what Freeper Gritty said on another thread...it's normalcy bias. In other words, denial.

You can blame them though, half the country is still in shock and trying to come to grips with the fact that we just witnessed a coup in our own country.

The truth will sink in shortly.

If something isn't done and done quickly, this country is gone.

the damage has been done and those responsible are not the Democrats but the Republicans themselves for siding with the Democrats, who want to be in a party that does not defend its president; supporting the Republican Party and not supporting anyone is the same, none responds to our interests ,,,

1) We will hear little from President Trump until he wins the Senate vote upcoming. The day he wins that, several news sources will announce the vote could happen again if he doesn’t behave himself. THAT will be the essential issue.

2) The focal argument that will be tried to stop him will be the loud cries of how the GOPe are CONSERVATIVE. Trump has defined CONSERVATIVE and they do not qualify and they have thought deeply about this and realize THIS . . . THIS . . is what will be the debate. Trump will say Conservative is drain the swamp, build the WALL, end the endless wars. The GOPe will be back in the mode of protect America and lower taxes defining Conservative. They are terrified of the redefinition, and if Trump carries the day on this, they have nothing to use to hold anyone.

3) They might try to put him in jail. The only hope they have is his age.

Well said, the petulant Perot supporters saw nothing but their own self interests and impatience.
.........
Those Perot Republicans and independents gave us the blight of the Clintons and the ruling class they established in DC.
...........
If ya don’t like the Republican leadership and principals, change it, get involved. Don’t follow hot heads and their loose talk. So far, 8 of the arrested are found to not having even voted for Trump!!
..........
Trump is our past, get over it, move along.
.........
Republicans will be back, there is always another election.

With so much help from the GOP stealing the election, destroying MAGA and voiding the constitution, the rats already have future elections in the bag. You can thank your GOP Quislings for that. You better get that cash flowing in to the RNC. I hear they’re gonna repeal Obamacare if they could only win the house in ‘22. None so blind.

Can you venture a guess as to what percentage of Dem voters overall made the switch?

TIA.

“Trump has defined CONSERVATIVE”
..........
Hardly, Barry Goldwater and others did that. Trump defined political recklessness....and it cost him his job.
........
We conservatives need to stop whining like we are some sort of victims. Get over it, dedicate yourselves to the struggle, find new leadership, define our values.
........
It is a historical fact that political ideas, while they may be correct.......are irrelevant......if ya don’t WIN.
.........
Roll up your sleeves, find a winning and inclusive strategy........and sell it.
