The United States must be ready for a nuclear war with China or Russia and seek new ways to deter both countries’ use of newly acquired advanced strategic weapons, the commander of the U.S. Strategic Command is warning in a major new review of the global balance of nuclear forces.
Adm. Charles Richard, writing in the current issue of the U.S. Naval Institute journal Proceedings, offered a blunt and detailed assessment that the luxury of living in a post-Cold War era when direct armed conflict with a rival nuclear power was not possible is over.
“There is a real possibility that a regional crisis with Russia or China could escalate quickly to a conflict involving nuclear weapons, if they perceived a conventional loss would threaten the regime or state,” the four-star admiral wrote.

Our lunatic Admirals and Generals and their neocon masters are very deeply into the idea that you can fight conventional land wars against Russia and it won’t go nuclear.
These maniacs think they will accept a conventional defeat if we go after Crimea, or start shooting down their planes in eastern separatist Ukraine, etc.

during the cold war.
It’s part of their basic doctrine now, that any nation attacking them will get nuked into oblivion. It stems from Napoleon, WWI, and WWII. They have pretty much decided never again.
China is pretty much not a risk. They aren’t strong enough and don’t have a big enough nuclear force to take us on. It would take all they had, then they would have nothing and would be surrounded by Korea, India, Pakistan, and Japan (that could have them in a few weeks if they already don’t)
But these maniacs are spoiling for a conventional war with Russia and whine that someone might nuke them if they try. It’s astonishing.

A normal nation would remove someone from command for saying this, but we are not a normal nation.

Nuclear weapons are never going to be used again in war. Maybe as a terrorist weapon but not militarily. There is no scenario where using a nuclear weapons is advantageous.

Nope. 95 % of the worlds nukes are held by us and Russia. Those small arsenals of Norks, China, and Iran are meant to keep anyone from shooting at them or them winding up like Saddam.
They use their tiny arsenals, they are obliterated and surrounded by SE asia that hates them. India that hates them etc. They are anti-invasion insurance and a tool for cage rattling. China will get there eventually, but not yet.
But read military think tank stuff and you’ll see a ton of them horny for a conventional shooting war with Russia. They tried to spark it off in Syria but Trump wouldn’t play.
If we are lucky it’ll just be DC. But it’d need to be a 1950s citybuster H-bomb to be sure to get Fairfax county and the suburbs too.
It not going to happen. Nuclear is suicide. To make the point even more clear, even if our opponents have no nuclear capability like North Vietnam, North Korea, Iraq and Afgan insurgents we still don't use them....

I was thinking about that the other day. In this far left idealistic government we have now Biden may push for some “historic” nuke disarmament deal where we disarm and hope others do as well.
Add to that the belief out there that Biden is not well could offer to some a timed opportunity to strike while the iron is hot ... not necessarily a classic nuke strike by China or Russia but laundered through some terrorist org or Iran.
The ideal first strike situation would be when it is not clear who launched the missiles.
