Confirmation votes for Biden administration nominees and wrangling over COVID-19 aid legislation will occupy senators' time over the next two weeks rather than the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.
That's due to a Friday night deal between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell; the trial will begin on Feb. 9. The Democratic-majority House on Jan. 13 voted for a single impeachment article against Trump, charging him with inciting an insurrection that led to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“The fact is, the House will deliver the article of impeachment to the Senate. The Senate will conduct a trial of the impeachment of Donald Trump,” Schumer, a New York Democrat, announced Friday on the Senate floor.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to send the article over Monday.
McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, had all along wanted to postpone a trial until mid-February in order to provide time for Trump to prepare an adequate defense. The extra days, McConnell said, would also give Democrats more time to confirm President Biden’s Cabinet, which got off to a slow start this week.

Keep it on the back burner, way back.
Bring it.
Why bother delaying it?
Its going to get exactly nowhere.
No McConnell is doing them a favor passing their agenda.
An impeachment trial with the subject out of office?
Where do they get the right?
And as to a bar to future office....who says?
Where do they get that right?
Alcee Hastings ran for office after being thrown out of the judiciary. Nothing said he couldnt. Can the opposing party just outlaw their opponents?
Question-Rule change to dump the Filibuster of 60 votes, doesn’t it take 60 votes to change rule? Or just a simple majority of 51?
Glad to see they’re unity in preserving their cute little “NOH8” meme seen on so many lib posts at various sites. So unifying, so tolerant, so forgiving. (Do I need the /$?)
Does Trump have a constitutional right to a prompt impeachment trial?
Dear God, Please bring confusion and disorder to their ranks.
Let them fight among themselves and tie themselves into knots of ineffectiveness.
Block the plans they have for evil in this country and continue to expose them and wake people up to what’s going on.
A Friday night deal?
I guess talk of impeachment was getting in the way of his upcoming election...er...erection...er...
insurrection...
What would happen if no attorneys and no Trump ever show up for their show trial?? Fraud election; Fraud trial.
There should have already been 197 Republicans demanding Pelosi be Censured, Removed as Speaker, Brought up on Contempt of Congress and Perjury Charges and Criminal Referral’s for DEFRAUDING Congress and the American People with her BLATANT LIE that Trump “incited” anything. It is clear and there is a lot of evidence demonstrating it was PREPLANNED and Started long before Trump finished Speaking, and SHE KNEW IT.
I think they feel they have this sword of Damocles dangling over Trump’s head. The democrats and GOP Quislings are probably using the threat of a possible conviction to silence Trump.
In other words, the Democrats will use the farce impeachment threat to pressure our ever faithful Republicans to pass Democrat legislation and confirm all of Biden cabinet picks?
A month with the Swamp clown-car leading the parade will seem like a century.
Who knows—we may be in a serious hot war by then...
If the impeachment process is still going, that must mean that Donald Trump is still considered the actual President-in-Exile.
Otherwise, the Demonicrat-controlled Congress could just as well impeach and convict all Republicans so that none of them can run for public office.
I’m not so sure
But it’s why Trump is uncharacteristically quiet
McTurtle scumbag working for the dems again
Hold things up, but they won’t
I thought impeachment was important and had to be handled immediately?
I guess not when Biden needs his regime appointed
GOLLY GEE!
