Actually, in Michigan the registration fee is more for an EV to make up for the loss of gas taxes. Just bought a commuter vehicle and was surprised the plates cast more.

Who wants gas taxes increased? The truckers.
US roads are underfunded and undermaintained. Funding their improvement with a user fee seems fair and efficient. It’s been almost 30 years since the last change. It will actually save the truckers money to be able to operate on roads that aren’t falling apart.
We barely survived eight years of 0bama; this current mess will be worse.
