Pete Buttigieg Floats Raising Federal Gas Tax: ‘All Options Need To Be On The Table’

Transportation Secretary nominee Pete Buttigieg suggested raising the federal gas tax in order to fund infrastructure initiatives during his confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.

Republican Florida Sen. Rick Scott asked the former South Bend mayor if he would favor a federal gas tax increase to pay for the Highway Trust Fund. The fund is mostly financed by revenue from federal gas taxes but has become less financially solvent in recent years, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

“Well, I think all options need to be on the table,” Buttigieg responded. “As you know, the gas tax has not been increased since 1993, and it’s never been pegged to inflation. And it’s one of the reasons why the current state of the Highway Trust Fund is that there’s more going out than coming in.”

I saw Buttgag being quizzed by Ted Cruz about the 11,000 high paying jobs that were trashed by Biden when he stopped the Keystone Pipeline. Essentially Buttgag told the victims "learn to code". Zero sympathy for the families and workers hurt by this decision.

I remember sometime in the late 1970s my dad was filling up the truck and I saw the gas price was around 90 cents or so. I asked my Dad why didn’t they just make it an even dollar so what you owed was easier to figure out. The look he gave me made me question if he wanted to disown me.

Mobile Americans are a threat to this communist democrat regime. Higher fuel taxes and the orchestrated coming of less fuel availability to the public will be meant only to control those unruly American patriots and the democrats will sacrifice their own (take one for the team) in order to achieve their goal of a communistic USA. It is now in our face!

“If I hear one damn Democrat complain that gas prices have doubled...”

It will all be blamed on Trump. And I have made it my mission to correct those idiots.

How about we agree to avoid taxation where ever possible, and never
suggest them? Please save us both the time of debating over you justifying it.

Going to be a slow boil to keep the masses from revolting. Gas prices, etc slowly creeping up.

In Indiana, they are assessed a special registration fee each year to somewhat compensate. I haven’t done the math but I assume if you were a high yearly miles EV driver, you’d still come out ahead.

Can’t wait. Gas is already up to $2.39 in my neighborhood, and since these freaks hate gasoline powered vehicles, I’m sure it’ll jump up to 4 or 5 dollars real soon.

This is while they’ll be ferried around the country using gasoline powered airplanes and ferried around D.C. in gas powered vehicles, all of this at no cost for them.

And the rest of us can go to hell, but in electrical cars.

Here is what we know.

1. Obama openly stated his goal was $5.00/gal. gasoline so as to drive people into buying electric cars.

2. Obama’s people are running the White House. Susan Rice will be making more decisions than Biden. Rice speaks for Obama.

I predict that if the GOP holds the line, and opposes this in lockstep, this hike in the gas tax alone, if passed along a party-line vote, will cause Democrats to lose 50 seats in the House during the midterms.

Tax electric cars more,

Electric cars will get additional subsidies from this administration while ICE vehicles will get additional regulations and unreasonable standards to meet.
