Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is sending the article of impeachment against former President Trump to the Senate on Monday, paving the way for a trial.
The House of Representatives this month voted to impeach Trump for the second time in his presidency for "incitement of insurrection" after a mob of his supporters besieged the Capitol on Jan. 6 in a failed attempt to stop the certification of then-President-elect Joe Biden's electoral college win.
"I've spoken to Speaker Pelosi who informed me that the article will be delivered to the Senate on Monday," Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor Friday.
Pelosi confirmed her plan in a separate statement.
"We are respectful of the Senate’s constitutional power over the trial and always attentive to the fairness of the process, noting that the former president will have had the same amount of time to prepare for trial as our Managers," Pelosi said. "Our Managers are ready to begin to make their case to 100 Senate jurors through the trial process."
Schumer has been discussing how to organize the Senate and special rules for the upcoming impeachment trial with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
No agreement has been reached on either front. If one is not on impeachment rules before Monday, then the standing Senate impeachment rules will go into effect, forcing the Senate to convene every day at 1 p.m., excluding Sundays, to consider the impeachment "until final judgment shall be rendered."
McConnell suggested a set of pre-trial procedures on Thursday that would delay the event by a few weeks, but the decision by Pelosi, D-Calif., instead sends the Senate potentially careening on a collision course with a full trial next week.

I think they already have worked out what they are going to do. They will try him, 6 or 7 Republicans will vote to convict, and then both sides can fund raise. Both know that a conviction will not happen, so this is just a fundraiser. They all hate us little folks equally as much. Pelosi can say that if they had just a little more dough, then they could have gotten it passed. McConnell can argue that if they had just a little more dough, then they could stave off the evil Democrats and win back the House and Senate. McCarthy will say that it is unconstitutional, but the evil Democrats will not honor the Constitution anyway, so send more dough. All sound familiar? In the mean time, the Supreme Court will be glad that they did not have to defend the constitution.

They did the exact same thing to Jhn James in his election fight. He folded in a couple weeks. If anything the money needs to be sent straight to Mara Largo

What Trump can do is demand the right to mount a complete defense. Call witnesses. Develop extenuating circumstances by presenting all the evidence the election WAS stolen. Subpoena state voting records, election officials, and machines to be examined. Call all witnesses who have already sworn affidavits. Use this trial to make the case for theft. If anything he can dare Roberts to rule against him and then proclaim with reason that he was denied his constitutional rights as a defendant. He can also stifle the Senate as it tries to co duct regular business.
Normally, I would trust the Chief Justice to do the right thing and do EXACTLY what you described.
But we’re talking about John Roberts here - one of the must feckless, unprincipled Chief Justices we’ve ever had the misfortune to occupy that position.
I tell ya, my visits to FR are down 95 percent the past half week.
I still LOVE the site and I Miss talking with friends and discussing things and having a good laugh sometimes along the way.
But I just can’t stomach what’s going on and I don’t need to fall into a depression :)
It will take a few weeks to adjust to the situation and then the fight continues.
I just keep thinking that we have an assistant Health Secretary that IS A MAN IN A DRESS and I just want to cry.
We still have the greatest military in the world by far, IMHO.
But if I were China, I would see a man in a dress in a leadership position and wait for the US to implode on its own.

How about when we are solicited for money by any of the Republicans, we send it back with a penny and tell them your donation is going to OUR President, Donald J. Trump, an do send a donation to Trump. He can use it wisely.
When Republicans get control, EVERY Democrat President in history needs to be impeached. Not being alive makes no difference if not in office is ignored.
I guess we’ll see if any of them learned something from the results of Liz Cheney going against the will of the people. She is being primaried . . . and that is about the only thing that scares a gutless politician.
