Schumer says Pelosi to deliver Trump impeachment article Monday, triggering trial amid standoff with McConnell
Fox News ^ | 01/22/2021 | Tyler Olson

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is sending the article of impeachment against former President Trump to the Senate on Monday, paving the way for a trial.

The House of Representatives this month voted to impeach Trump for the second time in his presidency for "incitement of insurrection" after a mob of his supporters besieged the Capitol on Jan. 6 in a failed attempt to stop the certification of then-President-elect Joe Biden's electoral college win.

"I've spoken to Speaker Pelosi who informed me that the article will be delivered to the Senate on Monday," Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor Friday.

Pelosi confirmed her plan in a separate statement.

"We are respectful of the Senate’s constitutional power over the trial and always attentive to the fairness of the process, noting that the former president will have had the same amount of time to prepare for trial as our Managers," Pelosi said. "Our Managers are ready to begin to make their case to 100 Senate jurors through the trial process."

Schumer has been discussing how to organize the Senate and special rules for the upcoming impeachment trial with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

No agreement has been reached on either front. If one is not on impeachment rules before Monday, then the standing Senate impeachment rules will go into effect, forcing the Senate to convene every day at 1 p.m., excluding Sundays, to consider the impeachment "until final judgment shall be rendered."

McConnell suggested a set of pre-trial procedures on Thursday that would delay the event by a few weeks, but the decision by Pelosi, D-Calif., instead sends the Senate potentially careening on a collision course with a full trial next week.

Rudy just on Warroom saying bring it on, they have the proof the election was stolen.

At this point that really sounds like a tired old joke.

And in fact, it's not even on target --
"There! There is my proof! Rock solid! The election was stolen!!"
"Well, that's nice but this impeachment is about inciting a riot, and you have offered no defense against THAT charge, so Trump is guilty and will never hold office again. Looks like you blew another case."

Ok. Thanks

To keep him from running again, all they would need is a felony conviction. That would be much easier than a post office impeachment leading to a felony charge.

Impeachment does not mean you can’t run again. It takes (In my understanding) a felony conviction.

But I am an engineer, not a politician.

"I’m not sure at what point they have to challenge it though."

At the outset!

The irony here is Madame Antoinette's reliance on Belknap post-resignation trial, who was a hero of Republican Reconstruction and had prosecuted the KKK. Driven them from the Army.

The Senate trial devolved into an imbroglio where no less than Custer pointed fingers at Belknap AND US Grant's brother Orvil (for a no-work cartography contract from Interior).

She wants Trump in the stocks, it ain't never gonna happen. Trump has what Belknap never had - presidential immunity.

Unless Miotch wises up and whips his caucus into an immediate Dismissal, what's gonna happen is that SCOTUS and no less than Queeg Roberts will be forced to address the immunity 'gap' between Nixon v. Fitzgerald and Clinton v. Jones.

Fine with me. This will only solidify the new Patriot partys strength.

Hey Morons, an Impeachment Trial of a private citizen is meaningless!

If Alan Dershowitz is correct, and I have no expectation that he’s not, whatever the House did is unconstitutional on its face, and is, therefore, null and void.

McConnell doesn’t HAVE to do anything but laugh in Schumer’s putrescent face.

Dershowitz knows whereof he speaks. It still might have to go to SCOTUS though so I hope he’s willing to argue it.

Interesting - and great history!

And it’s true that Roberts may have to get real and actually act like a Chief Justice.

There are fewer. Is stepped out of the Party for a few years when I figured it out. But I got sucked back in with the hope that Trump could really drain the swamp. He couldn’t. So I won’t be suckered again. I wrote on one of their fancy “pleas” essentially the sentiments that you are seeing on this thread.

And if the likes of Pelousy and Schumer took over Hell, they'd mess that up, too.

The Authoritarian Democrats are using the word “fairness” in the Orwellian sense, you know like “war is peace, freedom is slavery...”

It should be made crystal clear that Republican voting to convict would be committing political suicide.

Made crystal clear to whom, by who?

We’ve called, we’ve rallied, we’ve donated to fraud election defense, we’ve tweeted....nothing seems to effect these elitists in their house on the hill.

We can’t vote any Senator out because M!tch immediately spends $$$$ from his NRSC slush fund to smear ANY/ALL opponents....so, how, exactly, do we make it clear?

They seem to be tone deaf and not five a fig....as if our opinions don’t even matter one whit.

The Constitution makes no provision for the impeachment and trial of somebody who is not in office.

The House has no power to charge (impeach) and the Senate has no authority to convict a private citizen.

It’s power and authority simply not granted to them, even by inference.

Believe you are right on McConnell who I hate for some things he has said.

Someone suggested in their video presentation that McConnell was trying to delay the trial to February to possibly help Trump. What do you think of this theory?
