Biden Offers Russia Five-Year Extension of Arms Control Treaty – with No China Provision
Breitbart ^ | 01/22/2021 | John Hayward

Posted on 01/22/2021 7:51:36 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

The White House said on Thursday that President Joe Biden will offer a five-year extension of New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) to Russia, an offer far more generous than the Russians were expecting. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a one-year extension of New START in October.

I told you so. Also has Open Skies in it. This is a give back for Russia helping to renegotiate the Iran deal, as well as Russian interference on behalf of the Dems in 2020. Here I thought a cold period would ensue but apparently not.

The Chinese were also consulted about this treaty and said it’s not a big deal. Russia plans to break the treaty anyway so it’s not a big deal to either of them, or the Chinese.

[Russian interference!!!]

Biden’s offer is just another in a long series of dovish moves from the Democrats. The Democrats talk tough, but tend to be doormats on foreign policy. Hillary’s reset button was neither an accident nor an exception.

Trump was tougher on Russia than *any* of his predecessors. The thing with Trump is that he was very conciliatory in words with Putin, but he really crapped all over Russia. There’s just no way, for instance, that either Biden or Obama would have authorized airstrikes on Russian mercs advancing on (while firing artillery rounds at) US troops in Syria. In fact, I’m not sure any president since 1945 would have. Trump is sui generis - one of a kind. Any other president would have instructed US troops to back off.

Trump’s relationship with Russia might be likened to a guy who beats his girlfriend (except Russia is not really our girlfriend). He smacks her upside the head, then whispers sweet nothings in her ear. He repeats this cycle over and over. Russia flouts arms control treaties? Trump withdraws from them. Russia wants to build a gas pipeline to the EU? Trump sanctions the heck out of all the companies that want to provide parts for the pipeline.

That’s why the EU hates Trump. He kiboshed all their side deals with Russia. The reasoning being - “if we’re protecting you from Russia, why are you feeding the monster? Maybe you should provide more of your own protection. You could certainly afford it.”

England is relying on the Keystone Pipeline for refined oil, shipped out of LA.

Germany’s oil deal has made themselves captive to Russia.

If Biden cuts off the Keystone, that compromises England and may force them, like Germany, to buy Russian oil

What does Russia have on Biden that he cancelled the Keystone deal, compromising europe and putting Russia in the oil catbird seat?

Which Biden or Harris relative stands to profit from cancelling the Keystone?

Tougher than Reagan? Oh hell no just hell no
Trump couldn’t carry the gippers jock strap on his best day

I’m sorry were you napping during the Cold war?

Wasn’t you populist bitching about how sleepy would have us in World III erm( Endless War) with Russia at the drop of a hat? Wasn’t Russia according to you all the saviors of the whole world and Western Civilization? Well then Biden’s-cave throws all that out the window then doesn’t it?

Of course us Reagan conservative constitutionalist knew the whole time that Biden was nothing but a communistic stooge who would bow at Putin’s feet the very minute we got there.

Not me. My assertion has always been that Russia would be a threat regardless of whether Putin was in power. Anyone who has more than a passing familiarity with Russian history knows it was a threat long before the Bolsheviks, simply from the way it expanded relentlessly. I don’t know anything about the curriculum at the military school Trump attended, but I expect military history to be one of the subjects well-covered, and Russia’s wide-ranging additions to the empire to be at least touched upon. It’s not for nothing that Russia is still, today, almost the size of the next two largest nations *combined*. That is possibly the reason for Trump’s stance vis-a-vis Russia - all you have to do is look at a map of the world and a few random slices of Russia’s history throughout the last thousand years.

China, like Russia, is a threat for very similar reasons. Even if Chiang Kai-shek had prevailed, China would be a real threat to its neighbors and, in the long run, the independence to any nation not part of the Chinese empire. It shares with Russia a world-conquering civilizational ethos that has yet to be repudiated in deed rather than word.

Of course, none of this is unique to Russia or China. All rulers through the course of history have sought to write their names in bold in the history books by acquiring land. Europe, from Germany on to the Atlantic (excepting that Ottoman remnant, Turkey) gave up this pursuit after the carnage of two world wars. How long this change of heart endures among Europe’s elites is for future generations to discover.

Re Reagan and the Soviets - Reagan signed arms treaties with them despite knowing their tendency to cheat. Trump saw the cheating and repudiated multiple treaties. A Reagan that high-tailed it out of Lebanon after the Beirut barracks bombing would likely not have confronted the Soviets directly in any conflict short of the one described somewhat entertainingly in General Sir John Hackett’s novel.

Can a President extend a treaty without submitting the extension to the Senate for treaty approval? Of course I do not expect dotard Biden to actually follow the Constitution.

One of my wishes with Trump was that he would have submitted the idiotic Paris Accords to the Senate for their vote with a firm recommendation that they reject it. No way it would have received the 2/3’s approval necessary and then Biden could not have legally put us back under it.
