Mitch McConnell Destroys Democrats' Hopes for a Senate Impeachment Trial

Democrats are expected to introduce a new impeachment resolution next week, but if they were hoping for a quick approval of the resolution and a Senate trial before Trump leaves office, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell effectively threw cold water on the idea.

According to a memo obtained by the Washington Post, the Senate “will not reconvene for substantive business until Jan. 19, which means the earliest possible date that impeachment trial proceedings can begin in the Senate is the day before President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated.”

The memo says, “Although the Senate will hold two pro forma sessions next week, on Jan. 12 and Jan. 15, it is barred from conducting any kind of business during those days — including ‘beginning to act on received articles of impeachment from the House’— without agreement from all 100 senators. With a cadre of Trump-allied senators in the Republican conference, that unanimous consent is highly unlikely.”

Wonder what they’ll try to do to him after he leaves Office and is a private citizen. Disturbing.

If Trump is responsible for the actions of a few is the left responsible for the acts of illegal immigrants which they support?

The House didn’t care, the first time they impeached him, that he wouldn’t be convicted in the Senate. They don’t care this time. They just want him to be stamped as two times impeached. They just want to lose more House and Senate seats in future elections. The Senate would have gained four Senate seats if they had fought the illegal elections. The House would be controlled by Republicans if they had fought the illegal elections.

Fortunately he's a billionaire and has access to resources most of us could never dream of. He can afford the finest legal representation possible. Trump can take care of himself - though I hope Lin Wood doesn't find his way onto the legal team.

That’s why he should resign on Jan 19 and have Pence provide him a Ford Nixon pardon. Then all he needs worry about is Leticia James in NY.

Don’t worry. If he pardons himself, dems will file charges against him as a private citizen for putting the toilet paper on going under instead of over (while they change all theirs to over before the charges are filed).

Presidential pardons only apply to possible federal crimes. Today’s Stalinist left really, really wants to hurt Trump. So I expect him to be charged with some obscure state crime. Maybe something related to taxes. Or maybe something about disturbing public order.

True.

You get the government you deserve.

“people get the government they deserve” have been attributed to both Thomas Jefferson and Alexis de Tocqueville.”

What he should be pushing for is this
THE GEORGIA RESULTS
SEND IN AN ARMY OF FED PROSECUTORS AND DO THIS
There were a series of fraudulent voting charges here. Were they enforced and corrected before this election took place ? If they weren’t is not a review called for ?
If the Georgia Secretary of State is in charge of voting he has the responsibility of enforcing the state’s regulations as to who votes. And eliminate those from voter lists who don’t qualify.

Assign prosecutors to personally canvass and investigate. Check if military actually voted by asking them. Identify all voters by checking on their residency and citizenship. If found they do not qualify charge Illegals including state visitors known as snowbirds also include any technical computer fraudulent programming testimony when presenting to the court and get these election results tossed. Try and get it done SAP before the 20th

“The Senate would have gained four Senate seats if they had fought the illegal elections. The House would be controlled by Republicans if they had fought the illegal elections”

All true. And isn’t it interesting that McConnell seemed disinterested in making that happen, and let Trump to furiously try to do it?

He may can afford it, but that doesn’t mean anyone will take him on as a client.

One of the reasons why DJT had such a difficult time getting heard in the cases he brought is that no major law firm would touch them with a 10 foot pole - as their managements believed that exiting clients would leave, new clients would avoid them, and there would be political ramifications on the firm - this will not change after DJT leaves office.

There is no way Pence will ever pardon Trump if it came to that. Pence betrayed President Trump by refusing to throw out those fraudulent EC votes. So why should he pardoned Trump if Trump were to resign now?

In many ways, I’m surprised that Pence did not readily sign on to invoking the 25th amendment against President Trump. Pence is a traitor.

It doesn’t matter if the trial is held after. Trump is already out of office and cannot be removed.
