In a lengthy post on Facebook, Nebraska GOP senator Ben Sasse addresses the danger of Congress attempting to overturn the election on January 6:
The president and his allies are playing with fire. They have been asking – first the courts, then state legislatures, now the Congress – to overturn the results of a presidential election. They have unsuccessfully called on judges and are now calling on federal officeholders to invalidate millions and millions of votes. If you make big claims, you had better have the evidence. But the president doesn’t and neither do the institutional arsonist members of Congress who will object to the Electoral College vote.
Let’s be clear what is happening here: We have a bunch of ambitious politicians who think there’s a quick way to tap into the president’s populist base without doing any real, long-term damage. But they’re wrong – and this issue is bigger than anyone’s personal ambitions. Adults don’t point a loaded gun at the heart of legitimate self-government.
The whole point Ben is that it isn’t a legitimate outcome.
Be a shame if Ben suddenly contracted a neuroblastoma.

Exactly. How in the world anybody can accept that as a “legitimate election” is beyond me. What a maroon GOPE.
This guy doesn’t follow current events - he apparently knows nothing of how democrat party operatives in several states are attempting to steal the election from President Donald Trump ....
They’d point a gun at those trying to commit fraud and steal a legitimate election.

It is legitimate votes that will be invalidated by fraud.
He’s wrong that there is no evidence. The states in question violated their own laws. Should Congress overturn the state certifications?
In any event Congress is not going to do that, because democrats control the House. That’s just reality.

Sasse needs to be honest and put a D next to his name.
NOBODY has called for the results to be "overturned." What's been called for is a fair, honest, open and election. We had the exact opposite of that in six states.
The USA now apparently ranks dead last in international election integrity assessments. That is far more "playing with fire" than the attempts to rectify the wrongs.

It is a crooked election.
The dishonety this election will never be accepted by 80,000,000 adults.

Millions and millions of fraudulent votes.
Since revoting was not presented as an option, this is where we are.
Oh, we have our liberal wing who thinks it should be only two terms in government office but they are a minority with the moderates carrying the day with the belief that it should be two terms in a life time.
There is also the conservative wing that is of the opinion that it should be one term in office followed by one in jail.
There are days I sympathize with their beliefs.
Those days are coming closer together.
Is he dumb? Because he sounds dumb when he makes statements like “...to overturn the results of a presidential election.”
It’s the Democrats who are trying to steal the election. Not the president and his supporters.
