I’m not sure why that would matter. It’s not like Rogers Hornsby is going to lose any National League batting titles just because some dude in the Negro Leagues had a higher average one year.
Baseball is dying as all of the other pro sports. This Negro League stuff in itself is something I care less about but the rule changes and expansion of teams is what has killed them. It is also nauseating to be a fan and get lectured by a-holes in the booth and on the playing field, ice, court etc.I have not watched a sporting event since the Floyd/Covid era and my life is just the same but I miss the glory days before America was swirling down the toilet bowl.
"It was a different time, you see."
A closed field does provide a stable field for players to
compete in. If you don’t understand that, you should stay
off the topic.
i think you replied to the wrong person
They were Supermen. Ask any modern expert. (sarc)
I did. Not even sure who it was directed at now.
Sorry about that.
How was the Negro Southern League or the Negro National League any different than the Federal League that operated in 1914-1915?
:)
As long as you compare stats interleague, and not broadly across
leagues, you’re okay.
There are too many variables to compare across leagues.
games in a season
teams in a league
over all talent in a league
pitching level
error levels
length of the fences from home plate
possible different rules, designated runners, batters
possible free substitution
caliber of officiating
comparison of the relative status of the grounds
relative comparison of lighting for night games
how do the travel conditions vary between leagues
relative comparison of accommodations
level of coaching talent
level of equipment
in the early years, the safety/harassment of players
I played in the Lakeland, FL, Little League in 1953 and 1954.
We used the Detroit Tigers Spring Practice baseball diamonds.
Boog Powell was our Mr. Big, even back then.
Are we in?

>honoring Jackie Robinson for breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
I guess that isn’t the case anymore?

Good point.
It’s an empty gesture, meaningless really.
I think Satchel Paige (July 7, 1906 – June 8, 1982) made it to the “Bigs.”
According to a pretty good article on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satchel_Paige):
“At age 42 in 1948, Paige made his major league debut for the Cleveland Indians. Paige was the first black pitcher to play in the American League and was the seventh black player to play in Major League Baseball. Also in 1948, Paige became the first player who had played in the Negro leagues to pitch in the World Series; the Indians won the Series that year. He played with the St. Louis Browns from 1951 to 1953, representing the team in the All-Star Game in 1952 and 1953. He played his last professional game on June 21, 1966, for the Peninsula Grays of the Carolina League. In 1971, Paige became the first electee of the Negro League Committee to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.”
When you posted two Black guys, it appeared to me you were
attempting to say I was basing my comments on race. It
angered me, and I responded angrily.
Others saw to Black guys with different builds, and focused on that.
My focus was on ERAs, OBAs, stolen bases, home
runs, and other stats?
If the pitching in one league is on average 2.67 and the
average in another league is 1.25, do you believe that might
make on base averages skewed between leagues?
What does it do for comparisons if you just toss all those
in a big hopper and claim one player is better than another
because his OBA was 320 and the other in another league was
270? It depends on a number of stats that might not be
the same between leagues.
I had the other post removed. I apologize if you had no
intent to base your response purely on race.
No blood, no foul.
But, my point was that most stats (HRs, AVG, ERA, OBP) are already FUBAR because of the Steroid Era in baseball. Further obscuring them with Negro League stats, at this point, is lipstick on an already ugly pig.
Page was the guy I referred to when I mentioned the White Sox
he rest of the records can be regarded as within their leagues, where they are certainly valid.
And...? Who cares? Did THEY kneel too?
I don't know. Big business has done a lot of pandering since George Floyd, although the WAS NFL and CLE and ATL MLB names were under attack long before then.
I would have loved to have asked Manfred whether this announcement was made if this project was in progress when Floyd died.
