The owners of a New Jersey gym who famously defied orders to close the fitness center during the coronavirus pandemic have now been hit with more than $1.2 million in fines — but are staying open as a “f–k” you to Gov. Phil Murphy.
The Atilis Gym in Bellmawr became an anti-lockdown posterchild in May after it repeatedly refused to adhere to the Garden State’s orders to close.

They are trying to find a way to charge the gym owner with a hate crime.
When are these Governors going to learn that Pelosi is never going to bail them out. They were all played.
Lots of bravado, lots of cheers to “fight”.
Here’s the facts, the left doesn’t care about laws, or the constitution. When the left is in power, you’ll do as they say, or they will put a boot to your throat.
And, the beatings will continue until morale improves.
Pelosi seems intent on bailing them out - that is why there was no second deal struck (the Dem-state welfare pork attached to it).
As 9/11 did for some sh!thole cities, this is an opportunity for socialist pits to get federal dollars; if you recall, Newark NJ bought garbage trucks with its anti-terrorist money. When it was exposed, they said they’d need them to haul rubble in the even of a terrorist attack. Yes, they really said that - probably because the money that should have been spent on garbage trucks was smoked through some politician’s crackpipe or spent on his hookers.
Those who invoke the rule of law and the Constitution as their savior are whistling past the graveyard of history. The Left has never respected either. KTF
The problem for NJ politicians is that some areas have descended into such lawlessness that trying to get other areas to toe the line is laughable. At this point, you can see dirtbikes weaving through traffic in Newark - no headlights, license plates, registration/insurance/license...
The state is devolving into Somalia, and they are trying to squeeze what they can from the dwindling number of normals.
I just don’t think this divided government will bail out anyone. It is like watching kids fighting over the last piece of cake.Democrats can only destroy, delay, deny and blame.
Good question. Looks like a smidgen of corruption going on everywhere in gov. Maybe everyone is trying to impress our next president, on the left.
Most of us here have the exact same medical degree as Bill Gates!
God Bless the New Jersey gym owners. May the people of New Jersey, and America, rise up in unison with them.
Don’t assume the government will be divided (since apparently anything goes in elections), and don’t assume that if the Republicans hold the Senate then there won’t be a deal made - the Republican senators may want something else enough to fold.
I just can’t see how they can hope to install the “unelected Red Chinese Quisling Joe Biden” and expect people to just move on; I don’t know what exactly our options are, but this is so blatant it is unbelievable. Big Tech’s stifling of the story isn’t making it better, but just exposing it as even WORSE. When YouTube is banning content casting doubt on the election, it is even clearer that the fix is in; I don’t recall them doing that when the ghettopotamus down in Georgia refused to concede its race a couple of years ago.
It's all been exposed as a farce and all Phail Murphy is doing now is strengthening business owners' resolve to create dummy corporations on top of dummy corporations so that the State of New Jersey has zero control over any business. If done right, Phail Murphy may find that he's levying fines against himself.
I can see a windfall for lawyers well versed in corporate law. States like New Jersey are going to see that the only business entities that remain are those that can go to short-term lease/rentals where they can pack up their operations in a heartbeat. Companies (such as NASDAQ) are going to move any mid-term or long-term operations out of state.
May cost him hefty attorney fees but, he should prevail as these “laws” were created out if thin air and not the legislative branch along with the arbitrary fines and even more arbitrary definitions of essential business and further describing how many people can be in a certain square footage and further defining that square footage to something that is impossible for a business
A PA fed court did strike down a fine in PA due to the fact that it didn’t cite an actual law for the fine.
Declare bankruptcy, close up and move to Florida or Alabama in the dark of the night...open under a new name. Make ‘em try to find you. Civil disobedience is new way.
PA just makes it up as they go; they reopened liquor stores early on because their thirsty people were coming to NJ to buy it. NJ would never close its liquor stores; much of this was overtolerant Dutch before it was English. A DUI here is a driving offense - not even a misdemeanor (which has pros and cons, but is still better than a criminal record).
