Roald Dahl's family has apologised for anti-Semitic comments made by the best-selling author, who died in 1990.

A statement condemning Dahl's controversial comments, made in two interviews in 1983 and 1990, was published on his official website.

SNIP

"It is a shame that the estate has seen fit merely to apologise for Dahl's anti-Semitism rather than to use its substantial means to do anything about it," the spokesperson said.

since he has been dead since 1990 and is not around to abase himself in person his family does it for him. Notice that the mouthpiece for the "offended" wants money instead of a mere apology.

Posthumous shakedowns are pretty low.

That was the first thing I noticed: “GIVE US OUR MONEY!” Racism is the biggest protection racket going today. Capone and Luciano were pikers compared to the race-baiters.

That’s what it’s always about.

Things have changed. Get over it people.

My grandma died around 1985. I remember her once using what would now be called “a racial slur” or “the N-word”.

Do you suppose I should issue an apology, in case she offended anyone?

Can you apologize for someone else? That’s a pretty hollow apology.

It reminds me of when Pat Morita was hired as a stand up comic for a Pearl Harbor reunion. He started off by say, “We are really sorry for messing up your harbor.” It was hilarious because he had nothing to do with it. He spent the war in a Shriner’s Hospital as a child and then a Japanese relocation camp. This man apologizing for anything was ludicrous just as Dahl’s children apologizing for their father.

Great news! Can we go back to reading his work, again, or no? Asking for a friend.

I think his comments were something to the effect that Jews “switched so rapidly from victims to barbarous murderers.” He clarified that saying that he wasn’t anti-Jew, just anti-Israel.
I disagree with him entirely, but I could not care less.
Roald Dahl was a fighter pilot, a spy, er, diplomat, and an outrageously successful children’s author. That sort of personality doesn’t lend itself to political correctness. I don’t care what the perpetually offended think, er, feel, I am simply grateful that such a man lived.

That depends...

Just how sizable is your estate?

Where do you see something about a shakedown in the article? Do you assume that “rather than to use its substantial means to do anything about it” is a shakedown? It sounds to me like they mean taking action with the estates resources to combat Antisemitism, not a naked demand for money which is what a shakedown is.

These “Campaign Against Antisemitism” losers aren’t even trying to disguise the fact that they want money for nothing.

Demanding someone else do something in your personal interest then inferring negative consequences should your wishes not be fulfilled IS a shakedown.

No, they have some pending movie deals that were contingent on an apology, not exactly a shakedown

Why are they are apologizing? He just supported the Democrat position on Israel, still relevant in 2020.

What's even more interesting is if you scroll down the article to find out WHAT "anti-semitic remarks" were actually SAID by Dahl himself, its a statement from 1983 where he stated that Jewish people can "provoke animosity" from others, and an article he wrote in 1990 where he ADMITTED that he had "become anti-Semitic" himself.

So basically it would be along the lines of Bill Maher's kids apologizing for him making "anti-religious comments" years after he's dead.

What are they suppose to do about it?

Nuke Iran?
